I heard this discussion on another board.... their are many people who make great customs but the one hard problem with making 25th customs is the heads. All the san diego comic con customs were made from existing 25th parts plus custom heads. Now i have tried casting custom heads from old joe heads and modifying them to fit the new figures but that is hours of work. I wonder if we could ever get a customizer pack with a bunch of unpainted heads or other parts for that matter that could be used to make unmade characters. What do you all think?

From a company stand point this would be suicide. They want you to buy their figures, not make your own. There stance on custom figures is vague at best. They are okay with us making them but clearly not selling them. So it seems unlikely that they would make, market and promote the building of custom Joe's. They are just simply tolerating it for now. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the idea..... it just does not seem plausible. But with that said it will be interesting if they do make Green-shirts for troop building. Would they give them all different heads or the same?

Actually they only have issues with the copying and selling of logos and copyrighted names. They are all for customization of their figures. That was actually one of the selling points they made concerning the 25th anniversary Joes (How easy it was to make customs out of them) also the same reason they showed all those customs at SDCC and had classes on how to customize the new 25th figures I only count 3-4 heads that could be considered customs they used and most of those were probably just hollowed out vintage heads or in the case of the Alley Viper, I think they glued a visor on to Storm Shadow's head. Anyway, I'd love a "customizer's set" Just full of different body parts and such. The only reason I can see why Hasbro wouldn't do this is that it would only appeal to a small group of people (Even smaller than the whole of the Joe collector group) |

You make some valid points shogi, what i have come up with is trying to make molds of old joe heads and mod them to fit 25th figures. This is very hard i can't figure how to make a 3 dimensional mold so i have taken to pushing half the head into clay and then squishing some clay on the back part of the head then chilling it then removing the old joe head, this is so i don't have to destroy any old joe heads by drilling them out, if there is an easier way to make head molds someone feel free to share it with me. But i would love for hasbro to make a customizers kit the customizing comunity grows daily. And yes the 25th figures are waaaaaaay easier to customize than the old arah figures.

I think they know that they are dealing with a small market of individuals that can customize figures. These collectors are an off-shot of Collectors who are keeping the line alive. So they are going to promote customizing for the meantime....and........how else are they going to get rid of those peg warmers....LOL Seriously, I truly believe until they can cross over firmly into the children's market they are just trying to make them (customizers) happy. Keeping the line alive until they roll out Duke on a skateboard figure(Tongue held firmly in cheek) for the movie! You can believe in the future, near future they are going to put a tighter leash on this small group of customizers. They are in the business of making money off of figures they make and sell and they want you to buy their figures.
Anyway we are off topic here.....LOL. I agree that either way this would be an awesome idea to have generic heads for customization, even if I don't have the foggiest of ideas where to even begin. The closest I get is switching heads and a few catastrophic paint jobs that my ten year old nephew laughed at. |

i also dont see enough of a market to justify production and overall costs at a price that people would be willing to buy. and then theres the problem of getting it to the toy stores. whos going to put figure parts on a peg with gi joes? its just not profitable enough to bother imo. mastercolector on the otherhand could pull it off. price would be up there probobly but they make the custom figures every year so i dont know why they couldnt do the parts.

While I don't mind making my own heads from other figure lines it still would save some time to just pick up a head and paint it. The only probelm I see is that they would basically have to make a new mold of a new head and theres no way they are going to spend that amount of time making a new mold just to sell them in a pack. Once you get used to making head its really not that hard once you figure out a good way to make them. I can make a custom head in about 10 minutes before painting. You basically just need to cut the neck off a figure, drill a pilot hole, drill a bigger hole to a certain depth and the countersink that hole once its drilled out to the edge of the jaw line.
