I like Wave 4 being carded. It's not like it took anything away from us last year. They hadn't planned them until collectors started asking for them so I see them as a bonus wave. If you don't like them, stick to your 5pks.

Likes some of the others, I picked up a few of Wave 4 just to keep MOC to display. Not for monetary value, but just for sentimental reasons.

Wave four is not intended for us..... it's for casual collectors, impulse buyer, small children and those who want let's say a single Duke (whoever) without collecting the whole line.

I agree, and it's great for customizers who maybe want a duke head, etc. or a roadblock body without having to go out and get the 5 pack.

I love that wave 4 is carded. I didn't have most of those characters as a kid, so it's a good feeling for me having em all MOC. It didn't bother me to have both since I opened my Joe 5 pack for display. And now since I've done that, I've been buying the carded figures all over again to open. Well, at least my favorites.

I was pleased with Hasbro releasing these on single cards. I really like the vintage style card back, brings back many fond memories. At least with these I did not need to buy doubles for my loose collection. I just opened the box sets and the re releases look good with the rest of my MOC collection.

An obvious plus is having the figures MOC, the other advantage is the better plastic that is used on the single pack figures vs the 5 packs figures, plus we got a nice corrected Gung-Ho and most of the figures now sport backpack holes.
Honestly if I knew in the beginning they would be out as singles I never would have picked up the 5 packs. Now as for wave 4 2008 being pointless... aside from Bludd... I'd say yes. Last edited by todd_m6d; 02-24-2008 at 04:11 PM.. |

I've got mixed feelings about wave 4. Since I got the 5 packs, I didn't really need anymore. I was glad to find a Gung-Ho with a fixed crotch. If they had fixed everyone else in wave 4 I'd have gotten them. I may snag another Jetpack trooper, but other than that I'm passing. I'd rather spend my limited bucks on new figs or fixed figs.

I have every single figure that is out except for wave 4 (1, 2, 3, 5, and 6).
Does anyone consider these part of your single figure collection? I'm just curious if anyone felt they had to get them or their collection wouldn't be complete. As a collector, I ordered a few just to have single-carded figs (I like the card art), but I've also never seen these in our area - I'm from E. TN too. I know some areas have plenty, but I've never seen a wave-4 at retail. Still, considering in the 80's they sold figures for years at a time, what's the harm in them keeping them on the shelves for a few months? Just because you already got your 5-pack doesn't mean these figures don't serve a purpose to kids, collectors, and people just now rediscovering Joe. I think it's great to have ANY Joes on the shelf. If you don't like them, so be it. They likely weren't shipped with us collectors in mind. Skip the wave, but there's no reason to complain. It's just a wave to make sure everyone, not just collectors and scalpers, gets a shot at these popular characters. |
