I started rambling on and on about this in another thread, and I have spouted some of these ideas before. I thought perhaps I could write a snail-mail letter to the guys at Hasbro, after many of my ideas have fleshed out and I get some feedback. I also encourage others to put their ideas in here as well.
It may get a response like "We appreciate your support and enthusiasm,.... but we are unable to provide.... kiss the 'MADE IN CHINA' on our collective asses- Sincerely, underpaid secretary editing form letter response." In military fashion, I'll put out some sustainments (things that they are doing well, things we'd like to keep seeing, etc.), improvements (things that need to be fixed, scrapped, or otherwise reconsidered in the future), and suggestions for future products. Sustain: Realistic weapons and extra weapons. I can't say this enough. This has been the best feature so far with ROC figures. I know some fans of the older Joes really liked their remade weapons from the 80's and 90's, but having some realistic weapons around (and lots of them) has really appealed to me and many adult collectors. Keep doing this, if nothing else. Also- Multi-color weapons. These are fantastic. Offscreen/Comic characters. I do like the grittier colors of the ROC line, and I don't mind seeing the classic characters "touched up" at all. Half of the old classic Joe stuff is, by far, obsolete in comparison with what a modern elite force would wear. Of course, the Skin-tight suits and blue camo get old after a while, and I would like to see more variations. I also appreciate seeing other characters whom we'd never see otherwise in the line. Stands with 2 pegs for both Joes and Cobras- I don't know why someone dropped the ball on this in the first place, but nice appeal. I'd actually like to replace all of my stands at this point. Improve: Spring-loaded toys. Have these been playtested? What sort of approval did these things get, anyway? I don't believe that these are completely neccissary, and it does seem that they are going away... which I am happy about. They serve no purpose, and if dropping them drops the price, I see no loss. These things also ruin the awesomeness of vehicles, and they wear out after a while... so I fail to see the worthwhile investment. New vehicles. I realize that there is a certain degree of neccessity to put the movie vehicles out there, in 2 or more versions if possible. I completely understand. But can we get something new? As my count has it, there are only like 4 new vehicles. Is it too much to ask for an awesome helicopter? An off-road motorcycle? A combat Humvee? A dune buggy? Boat? Something other than what we're getting now... which isn't anything spectacular or innovative. More retro vehicles. I'm not trying to counter the last point. Could it kill you to actually dig out some of the old molds and give us an upgraded Stinger, Rumble Machine, Tomahawk, or Sky Hawk? Finish the Resolute series of figures (and vehicles). I don't know why this idea went to the back burner. I understand the movie figures taking a lead, but these can be jammed into the ROC series, as we've seen already. I don't give a damn what the box says. Give us some accessory packs. I don't care if you have to jam in a frankensteined repaint, I'd like to see multiples of weapons- by category, side, I don't care. More! There is no such things as too many guns! Ideas: 3.75 inch Sigma 6 Vamp. It has a modernized Vamp look to it, and it's perfect. No need to add flashing lights or anything, just make what you have bigger. Sigma 6 Street Razor. Yeah, I know- another Sigma 6... and everyone hated it. This vehicle was pretty wicked... I have no idea why. Sigma 6 "Throwback" 3.75 figures (haha! I know people are grinding their teeth now...). Personally, I'd like to see a Scarlett, Cobra Firefly, Jynx, and Iron Grenadier... perhaps a ninja armor Snake Eyes? Maybe... Dark Ninja Master.... who was AWESOME. I have more ideas I can regurgutate, but time to let you kids have a crack at it. |

1. REVITALIZE RESOLUTE!!! Start with a mini-series of 5 thirty minute episodes that picks up where the one-shot left off.
2. Go back to 25th/Modern single card packaging, preferably 25th style with explosion backs and silver borders. 3. Divide the line into three subsets: Classic, Resolute and Modern. Release 3-4 classic characters, 2-3 movie continuity characters, and 2 Resolute characters per wave. Classic cards would have old school GIJOE logo, Resolute its own logo, and movie the ROC Joe logo. It was the classic card art that revitalized GIJOE in 2007. It was foolish of Hasbro to discard it for the movie line. I believe 100% that if the movie action figures had been on old school style cards, they'd have sold a lot better, even at their price point. Here's an example of a theoretical case assortment (cases of eight): 1X Classic Airtight 1X Classic Footloose 1X Classic Cover Girl 1X Movie James McCullen 1X Movie MARS Tech 1X Resolute Roadblock 1X Resolute Flint 4. More old school packaging for vehicles as well. No more window boxes. 5. Explore Transformers in GIJOE scale, starting with a big Seeker mold and: Starscream with Pilot COBRA Commander Skywarp with Pilot Baroness Thundercracker with Wild Weasel If successful, develop further. |
