Does anyone know what Hasbro has purposely put out as variants as opposed to screw ups?
I assume Black timber SE, Shark tattoo Shipwreck were legit ones while yellow Stalker, Gung Ho without anchor on hat and Shippy with belt buckle are screw ups?? and ofcourse Diaper crotch, those were screw ups I believe. Did I miss anything important?

I think Stalker and backwards arms Gung-Ho were the only screw ups. Shippys Belt buckle and Gung-Ho's hat were mold changes

All of these variants are driving me crazy. I wish Hasbro just figured it all out before the figures leave the warehouse so that there was just one version of each figure.
As far as the variations of this line go I believe most of them were intentional, but after complains they were changed. Snake Eyes: The black Timber version of Snake Eyes seemed to be intentional due to the fact that Hasbro did the same with that Arctic version of Snake Eyes and Timber during the Sigma 6 line. Stalker: The yellow Stalker variant may have come from Hasbro trying to make the figure closely resemble his card art. I'm sure fans complained when they saw a banana colored Stalker, so they released him in green from that point forward. Then Hasbro decides to fix the crotch because of complains. Well for the most part this fix seems to only be for figures who share this mold. Why did they fix this mold but not the other molds like Duke for instance. On a similar note Torch shares similar parts with Gung-Ho. Torch has a fixed crotch, but Gung-Ho still has a diaper crotch. Shipwreck: The shark and anchor tattoo variation on Shipwreck's arm might come from the fact that the tattoo on his original 1985 counterpart looked to be a merger of both icons. I have no clue why Hasbro didn't make the tattoo look similar to the one on the arm of the original ARAH 1985 Shipwreck. Maybe there is some truth to the fact that these companies like to make more money off of us foolish collectors for wanting to buy both. As for removing the anchor off of his belt, I have no clue why they did that. Gung-Ho: The anchor on Gung-Ho's hat might have been removed due to fans complaining that an anchor is usually associated with the Navy instead of the Marines. Well if this was true why does Gung-Ho still have an anchor tattoo. My 1983 ARAH Gung-Ho has an anchor on his hat, but the card art does not show an anchor. Maybe Hasbro was trying to be true to the card art. I rather have the version with the anchor on his hat because it matches the original 1983 figure. I've seen 3 versions of this anchor variant. The first one from the 5-pack which was painted gold. The second one which was carded did not have the gold paint on the anchor. (I never saw this one in the store, but I've seen it online) The third and current version is missing the anchor altogether. There are even more variants than the ones above, like the black or brown gun for the Cobra The Enemy figure, but I'm not even getting into those. |

the only official variants are banana stalker and black timber snakes... the others are running changes, call them what you will but I call them not worth chasing.

I thought Snake Eyes was released with 2 wolf variants because the black one was "Timberlake" and got run over by a car. The grey wolf is "Timber" his second wolf...........
I'm kidding of course. |

My guess is that they have intentions on using the part for another character where the anchor would be inappropriate. 3. It's not an anchor tattoo. The design is a globe, crowned by an eagle, with an anchor in the background. It's the logo of the US Marine Corps. As such it makes perfect sense that it stays. The hat anchor was a minor detail. The chest tattoo is part of the character design. |

Well the Tat on Gung Ho is a must, but I like the hat without the anchor due to it looking more "toon" Acurate.

I have all the variants/changes/mistakes/whatever you wanna call them except yellow stalker and found them in stores EXCEPT yellow stalker. he, in all seriousness, isn't worth the money.
You can buy so much other good JOE stuff instead of that figure which would add up to collectively more money in the long run if you're into collecting for financial reasons. |
