I do it all the time. My wife goes nuts but no one has ever said anything to me. I have heard of this before but really don't understand it. I thought they wanted to sell it to consumers... like me

Crap... I do this at my big box grocery store with bananas and other fruit, pallet out in the aisle with buddy stacking the bananas. Just grab the freshest ones out of the box.
Why are toys so special?

One night at Wal-mart a about a year back. I was eyeballing the stocks on the pallets. I noticed on top a box of 25th Joes. I don't exactly remember what set.I decided to see what was in the case. After I opened it I decided to buy the whole case. A Wal-mart employee stopped me and told me I cant do that. I said OK, wont happen again and I started to walk off. She told me I could not buy those. I turned to her and said "A Wal-mart employee is telling me that I cant buy something that is not a recall item. I bet there is a 1-800-NUMBER that will tell me otherwise." She had nothing to say after that. Later that month I heard she was fired for saving action figures for certain customers. That might be the same issue at your Toys-r-us.

Generally speaking from my experience there are three types of people when it comes to toy buyers 1)the ones who treat these as collectibles, and look for that sought after prixe. 2) an adult buying it for themselves or as a gift for a kid 3) someone who is going to go out and scalp the toy five minutes later, or hide it so he can come back and grab it when he's sure it'll sell.
Number 1) can usually be cool and courteous and hopefully remembers that it's a toy, sometimes he can get carried away though, so can we all. Number 2) just wants what they think is cool or what the kid does and really has no care for rare things, tends to get dismayed by how hard it can be to find stuff. Number 3) Usually thinks he's entitled to anything in the store he wants, and may go so far as to take a toy from a kid's hands, or take only the sought after figures leaving nothing for the general public.
Why should Company A go out of their way for some guy off the street who will markup the exact same thing into a profit five minutes later. Why should they cater to this guy when he will sift through their toys until all they have are the pegwarmers that kids dont want. Usually that leads to people losing interest in a store and not coming back for things because they are never in stock. Why should they help this guy anymore than some dad who stops in for five minutes to buy a toy for his son? Why shouldn't the store itself markup the rare ones and cut out the middleman, why shouldn't the toy company gear their shipments more towards demand and not towards creating it.
This isn't meant towards anyone personally but the fact is, until it's on the shelf it's not fair game, you aren't entitled to anything in the store. If it's in the stock room that doesn't mean you should go in there and get it. If you ask for help and they say they don't have it, don't be a dick about it. Act like an adult and treat other people with respect. I've never seen more grown men throw temper tantrums over something than I have in my years of being a collector and now a father. Sometimes I think that some of these guys should go to the toddler section because these ages 6+up toys are not quite age appropriate for them.
