Ive done this a few times at WM. But its only when I cant find someone to ask. But on the flip side Ive never had an employee tell me no about opening a box. I always ask nice and smile. One reason they dont want you taking boxes off is incase it falls or something. I used to work at TRU for 5 years and had seen this happen too many times. Anyways, Great score. I saw those the other day but they havent really interested me.

I usually carry my K bar with me every where (hey some folks carry guns for protection) So when I use it to open toy boxes the stockers usually choose not to confront me and i'm always done and gone before security gets involved!

I actually walk over to the nearest employee and ask if they can please open the box for a figure I'm just dying to get. That way I don't get caught supposedly doing something wrong, according to whomever thinks its wrong. Most of the time they do help out. Sometimes, some workers will even go further as to open multiple boxes. I remember actually finding a succession of rare variant figures, as the lady opened box after box for me. The lady even noticed it was the same figure I was after and yet still kept opening every box for me.
Now there was this one time I was heading to the toy aisle when one manager sternly told me no and to go forward to the cashiers as it was closing time. I said I just needed to get one thing. He said no again. Here's the weird part. The manager commenced to follow me all the way to the cashier. If that were not enough, he was pushing a cart with some big long tube of something sticking out which just so happen to "accidentally" poke me in the arm. He said "sorry" yet he knew where I was from his following me from the near back of the store to the front of the store's cashiers. His poking me was odd, for it was not that hard to see me, after his following me so long of a distance.

having 1 TRU in RI sucks. everyone goes there lol. I think I know the "boss lady" you're talking about. Is she the tall blond woman with a tan? The firstp lace in RI I saw those vehicles at was Walmart on Post Rd. though. I'm not collecting any of the RoC vehicles at this point.

Complete, utter BS.
TRU & WM have 1 shared mission- MOVE PRODUCT, MAKE MARGIN.
It doesn't befit them to stop a sale regardless.
It is total BS. I've been stopped before, and I respond the same way: hey, it's cool. Go get your manager. And I want your district manager's phone number, let's call them RIGHT NOW. Tell them you are stopping a customer from making a sale.
I used to be a DM for a retail chain in Maryland; we would unload stock night prior, and if a customer wanted ANYTHING we'd bend over backwards to accomodate.
Sometimes I'd have employees take a digital picture of the setup to email into corporate to verify the set was done properly, and that is the ONLY reason I could think why a store would need something on display, otherwise it is just ludicrous. If I ever found out an employee stopped a sale for any principle, I'd fire them. On the spot. No explanation, get the F out of my store, you don't understand the concept of retail.
Best case- you not only sell to that customer, you get their number, and you call them when a shipment comes in and ask them if there are any special orders they are looking for in bulk that you can reserve for them for a 1 day period. It is good business. It builds long term customers. It builds repeat business, referrals, and a bond between a corporation and a client.
Note to any fellow tankers that work at TRU / Walmart- I don't mean to offend you, and I don't want to belittle your positions. But this type of behavior is not appropriate. It is poor customer service.
Yes, it is a liability if you go through a stores stock, or climb ladders to get boxes top shelved (ha.. funny word), but step up to the plate and do the job you are paid and help the customer to purchase the product they came there for and make that margin.
Anything less would be ... well. uncivilized.

Well if every manager thought like you then there would not be a million threads about employees and mangers saying no. I agree about the move the product issue. That is one reason they are in business, to make money. Cant do that if they dont sell. But the whole calling the district manager thing doesnt work all that well. Maybe for you b/c you have the knowledge and probably know how to talk with them but I have seen many people shot down b/c they cant word their aurgument right. Anyways not bashing I agree.

next time they say something about your opening a box in an aisle why not just start stocking the shelves?
I don't know how many times I have straightened shelves and put things back on the right pegs. I also fix books at bookstores and libraries.

umm..my recommendation is to just ask first. it's way less dick-ish that way. if they say no, and you're offended, don't go there anymore. if they say yes, they even may be willing to help. these are action figures, not covert military secrets we're trying to uncover ;). 95% of the time, you'll be able to find the same product down the road eventually anyway.
