30 + year olds had the Atari back in the day. I don't remember that slowing down toy sales. Then along came the NES in '84 & toys were still ruling Christmas. Atari was as awesome then as any Xbox 360 game is today, as any next gen game will be tomorrow.
From my perspective, toys aren't nearly as engaging today as they were inthe '70s-'80s. Too, the shows we watched back in the Day were better suited to selling us on action oriented toys. I havn't seen weekday afternoons on the noncable stations but I remember Seeing some lame lazy shows inrecent memory. Saturday mornings are nonexistant on the big three networks & noncable stations in general. Last edited by txbart; 08-17-2009 at 02:35 PM.. |

It seems, at least where I am, that younger kids are into action figures and it's the older kids who buy the video games. Sadly it just seems like video games have more of an impact on the current generation. I want to say it's a combination of what the parents introduce to their children and the amount of media impact video game advertising has on kids. How many video game commercials do you see on TV compared to action figure commercials?

I dunno, I grew up on videogames but I always bought action figures... and anymore I buy more action figures than games... but then again the current game industry seems to target people with half of one living braincell left, and pumps out sequels faster than Hasbro releases Cobra Commander repaints.

What has happened to our youth of today?? The toy aisle is like a deserted western town. When I walk down the toy aisle I hear the whistling of The Good, The Bad and the Ugly theme. I see a tumble weed roll across the action figure aisle. Where are all the kids ? I look a few aisles over and I see them all on the video game aisle.
I went to Toys-r-us yesterday afternoon. I was the only person on the three action figure aisles. Went down to Gamestop and had to wade through the kids screaming at their self-centered parents connected to their cellphones and wi-fi devices. We are raising kids to be connected to some sort of electronic device at all times. And kids are losing their independent thought and imagination. RIP my dear action figures may you be discovered by some civilization in the future that has an understanding of imagination. Chopz
