Just received some ARAH figures in the mail, and whoa...the smell almost knocked me off my feet.
Is there anything I can do? Put them in a baggie with pot-pourri or leather or something? Figures are in great shape otherwise (and no whites, so I'm not concerned with eventualy yellowing.) I just want that smoke smell GONE!!! |

I've encountered this problem myself. Giv the figures a good washing and wait. Eventually the smell goes away, or at least enough to be tolerable or barely noticable.
Best way to avoid this is to question whether the seller/trader smokes or not to avoid this all together. I won't buy a figure from a smoker for this very reason. Folks can smoke all they want, as is their right, but I won't deal with them if so.

Try steaming hot water. It might work.

I heard old fashion soap and water works. You may also use vinegar, but I'm not sure if that would hurt the paint in any way.

Try soaking them in Windex. I had to do that to a Fridge that I got off Ebay.

Here some tips i received from other collectors in the past. In my case, i just washed the vehicles (or figures) with soap and let them outdoor at fresh air a couple of days. Stickers was not a problem for me because i replaced them.
If you don't want to wash toys, you can also try baking soda. Put toys in a box with baking soda for a few days to absorb as much of the smell as you can and after switch to dryer sheets for a day. Another tip i received is to use Sawdust to absorb smell. Cedar (the best) and pines are better than most harder woods. Use sawdust, not chips. The chips will also work, but not as quickly or as well. Hope this help! |
