I was never a toy collector. I had alot of Joe's when I was a kid but left that stuff behind when high school hit. It was Christmas of '07 when I got The 25th Joe and Cobra Legions box sets and like CobraCollector mentioned went online to find out more about them. I happened upon this site and haven't looked back.
....and knowing is half theYo Joe!

I always bought Movie Hotwheel Cars, started with JL Bond Cars, then Initial D, then went CRAZY over the TOMY Bit Char-G Cars.. then I stopped and started getting back into my Car (95 240sx then my EVO Lancer VIII)... then My wife bought me some TFM Toys, Star Scream, Blackout, Iron Hide, Racthet..... and I went nuts over them... then one day, while madly hunting for TF Toys, I came accross a 25th Wave 1 SS. THey had only been out for a month or so...and I was like wow, these are cool..... NEXT THING you know I dropped TFM toys and have been stricly JOe, minus the TF 2.0 reluanch.... and now some of the ROC figs and most vehicals..

Well, my wanting to collect and play with Joes never really did stop ever since I got my first figure when I was 7. There dead spots when I'd stop buying here and there, spanning a couple of months to a year, specially in high school and college, usually because I was broke.
Also, when I got out of college and started working, I planned to really re-build my collection (I left my high school Joes in Macau when I moved to Manila for college, and in college, couldn't really collect much because of financial difficulties), there were hardly any GI Joes left in stores. I dressed up and customized what I had (which was the old school ARAH Joes) according to my mood. Example, when Lord of the Rings came out, all my Joes traded their guns for swords, shields and spears, and started dressing in robes (I sewed tunics, cloaks and robes myself) and armor (my old school ARAH Joes still look that way).
But I felt that I was sort of alone in this hobby, that no one shared my interest in customizing, or as some of my friends put it, "playing dress up". Sure, I had friends who collected toys, specially Star Wars, but they were all "Mint in the Box" types, and didn't share my belief that toys are meant to be played with (if it's decoration, display it; if it's a toy, play with it!). I didn't even bother searching for sites, until I got wind of the GI Joe Movie a few months ago. I was so out of the loop that I didn't even know about the 25th Anniversary edition until I heard about Rise of Cobra, and then that got me searching online, which led me here.
Long story short, I was sort of a GI Joe collector hermit, but now I'm starting to get in the loop.

yeah that's me alright. in the mid 1990s i pretty much stopped buying action figures since all there was was the Toy Biz X-Men and the eco crap for G.I. Joe. I was busy with middle school and high school so I didnt have the time to waste money on action figures. In a way I am glad I didnt buy all of the X-Men figures back then.
As for year 2000 to 2003 I was busy with trying to get through a community tech school. I was impressed with the Gundam figures and Saga and Revenge of the Sith figures for Star Wars but I was busy with school, so there's my store.
Now since last year or the year before that I started getting back into Star Wars action figures and I was tempted into buying the G.I. Joe series before the 25th anniversary. The earlier Major Bludd that was before the 25th ann Bludd was a disappoint or whatever.
Am I missing out on the first half of the 25th ann Joes? Maybe but they are being re-released as Hall of Fames now so this time I might get a few like Snake Eyes with Timber, regular Flint, and Cobra Commander. As for Duke well I guess I'll have to end up getting the jet pack flag wavin version since that's all I see now in stores. Plus I need to get some of the Cobra officers whether they have the classic black webgear or the yellow webgear.
When are the Tele vipers coming soon anyway?

Well, started collecting as a kid, now 20, never stopped. I've always got various stuff, I've changed lines a lot but never actually bought GI Joes until the 25th line, which reminded me of the good ole days of my friend having a bunch of vintage ones we would play with... which drove me into buying way too many.

Collected GIJOE back in 1982 through about 1986.....didn't get into Extreme, BTR, 90s pieces, or Sigma. Almost got into Sigma but the whole doll scale didn't quite work for me....started with 1/18 and have stuck with it since.
Got back into the Joes because the 25th articulation was impressive along with the nostalgiac feeling I got re-visiting the mythos. Now is the next era based off 82ish roots, and I'm really diggin' it. I think the guys who evolved the 82 mythos did a good job, and they have made GIJOE collecting fun again. I feel very lucky to not only be able to collect, but to also be able to collect during this "evolution".

Making up for lost time. I remember having only about two Joe figures (and no vehicles, much less playsets) and then a cousin gave me two more when he and his family emigrated to the US. It's every limited-allowanced kid's dream/ambition: Do well in school and graduate from college so he can get a good job with decent pay so he can buy all the toys he wants!
Nostalgia has something to do with it, but more of unfulfilled play dreams.

The kid I was in the 1980's had to wait for my birthday and Christmas to get joe's and with money being tight never had a complete collection of toys like my friends. So the adult me decided to make the kid's dreams come true (with the wife's permission) and treat him to a very complete assortment of joes. Better late than never and oh yeah the kid loves 'em.
