I guess i started with Star Wars figures, when they was re releasing the movies. Yeah was cool to get figures you had as a kid. Though i also have 4 Movie Maniac figures Jason, Freddy, Michael, Ghostface. I seen the 25th line but by then i hadn't been collecting anymore Star Wars figures etc. I did buy a few off ebay at first, then i seen Resolute Cobra Commander and Trooper in stores and bought those. I started buying more of the 25th line after that (mainly Target). Now with the ROC line i get to start collecting em right from the start, it's just fun going to the stores etc and seeing what you can find.
Reminds me of when i was a kid and my mom would buy em for me. When i didn't go i'd usally give her a card with the guys i had cut or marked out. I still remember this one time she came home with these big shopping bags, and one was for me i looked inside and seen just about all the guys i didn't have on the card! It was like Christmas. And best of all i'm not as embarrassed buying the figures in store as i've been before. I'd before kinda sneak into the toys and just do a walk through to see if they had anything. And if anyone else was in the isle i'd just leave and come back. This is also the reason why i stopped collecting the Star Wars figures etc.

It (re)started with seeing the 25e stuff at a local shop. The first Joes I bought in 20+ years was the Scarlett/Hawk comic pack and Baroness (single card). From there...it was all downhill. hahaha.
Not only are you cripplingly ignorant, you whine about it as well.

Spring time last year, I was at Walmart and decided to browse the toy section. I hadn't looked at toys in years. I spotted the 25th Ann Carded Joe's and I bought every figure they had on the pegs that day (no doubles). Since then I have been blowing money on 25th stuff, non stop. Another reason I started collecting the new Joe's is because of the retro card art and nostalgia.

Honestly, after I sold the old collection, I didn't even go into a toy isle for a long time. (Really it was too painful! I loved the Joe stuff!) Then as my son got a little older and into action figures I started getting Batman stuff for him. He was wired different from me and never really got into figures for the long term, more of a ball player/video gamer/car kid, and by then Joes were on hiatus so I didn't hit a toy isle for years.
Then cutting thru a Wal-mart toy isle to get to sporting goods one day in 2002 there he was... The Joe vs. Cobra, Duke vs. Cobra Commander! Duke...eh well he was ok, but the CC! Man! that high leather collar, the evil red glowing eyes! I was hooked! been emptying the wallet ever since!

I've always collected them, but for the longest I was essentially "rudderless" until one day i went down the toy aisle at a local Wal-Mart, prepared for dissappointment, and there was the new 25th Anniversary figures. Since then I've been Joe-centric focussed, even going so far as to ebay off a lot of other lines i no longer wanted (and wished i had never spent so much on in the first place) to fund getting ones I used to own and ones I wished I had.

Now there really wasn't a time when I wasn't above buying figures.
In my Yute I loved action figures. All the 3 3/4 figures.
Star Wars, Buck Rodgers, Battlestar etc. And of course Joes.
Somewhere along the line I started to lean more and more towards GI Joe.
Around 89-90 I stopped with the Joes. They started to come out all neon & neutered.
I hated the anti drug Headman thing, but it has been so long I cannot remember why.
It seemed to get even worse, soon Joes and Cobras were squirting each other with water and frolicking.
Frolicking I say!
Any-hoo after one or two awful X-Men figures and one or two Spawn bore fests I gave up hope and started collecting comics.
I would still buy here and there.
I bought Lionel Hutz, and Shirtless Groundskeeper Willie.
I bought the most awesome 20th anniversary Optimus Prime.
I bought stikfas. I bought a Gi Joe vs Cobra two pack with Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes for the swords to make a Stikfas custom.
The figures were garbage. Could not stand, crap articulation. Weird colors.
So few and far between I still buy,
Then after a heavy drought I come across news of the 25th anniversary Joes.
Now, I'm batshit insane for Joes.
I decided on the quality of the two initial five packs that I would collect them all.
I sat down with my fiancee and I spoke to her.
I told her that I was the kid who played with my Joes.
The few I have left wear many scars of battles fought.
I saw the advantage that I would be able to get them and I would be old enough to have the discipline to keep them in good condition.
I had a second chance.
I explained to her that I felt it was important to me to not let it pass me buy.
So since then it has been out of the gate.
