Thanks all for the advice, I think I will follow both suggestions in some ways. The new figures look fantastic but I was worried they might be a bit fiddly to play with. I wasn't crazy about the aesthetic of some of those other 2000's era figures but I looked at all of the ones MR Ninjaku posted and they look good enough to me. I was being drawn to those lines anyways due to prices being a bit easier to stomach. I hope Hasbro expands the 3.75" line and releases more vehicles moving forward. The roster of characters looks good for the Retro line so far IMO and to be honest I'm kind of glad it's not just a straight onslaught of releases since my primary toy spending is dedicated to my Transformers collection.
Honestly I'm more excited about the vehicles than the characters myself, but the characters are necessary for the play pattern. I can't wait to get a few, should be doing some shopping soon. I'll be looking at getting a Night Attack Chopper, Cobra Firebat, a VAMP MKII, I'd love to snag a Rattler too! Hopefully I can find some decent prices on them and stretch my budget a ways. |

Hello all, I'm new here and recently got the itch to start collecting G.I. Joe.
I was born in 84 and into G.I. Joe in the early 90's and I'm sure like many of you I sold off all my G.I. Joe toys in yard sales when I lost interest. Now I'm mid 30's with kids that are the perfect age for G.I. Joes and I'm feeling the desire to get into 3.75" Joe collecting and sharing that fun with my children. It feels like maybe a good time to get back in with the Retro line launching soon but through the research I've been doing I'm seeing that there are possibly some figure/vehicle compatibility issues with the modern figures. My collection goal will be to get stuff primarily to play with my kids and possibly display when we aren't playing. I'd prioritize durability and play-value first and actual character design second. I'd like to have representations of the major characters from the ARAH cartoon but they don't have to be spot on or anything. So which line and what vehicles should I go after? As far as I'm concerned the less expensive the better because then I can get more figures and vehicles. Thanks for any help/direction! I didn't want to end up with an entire shoe box full of Hans or Lukes like I did buying each improved release of Snake Eyes, or Storm Shadow. I found a web site that had a photo check list and spend weeks doing my research to buy the BEST version of each character and only buy it once. You'll wantt to use YOJOE.com for this. Also use this to verify that an ebay listing that says a figure is complete actually is. Do the homework. The modern era of Joes, ones that will be compatible with the Retro line started in 2007 and continued until 2015 at retail, and 2018/19 from the now defunct collector's club. 2007-2009 was 25th Anniversary, 2009 Rise of Cobra, 2009-2011 30th anniversary/Pursuit of Cobra, 2012/13 Retaliation, 2014-2015 50th Anniversary. Now some of the BEST versions of your favorite characters have really crept up in price, and you'll probably not want to spend big bucks for the kids to play with so use YOJOE to see if there are cheaper options. Lastly, you're not alone. I sell many Joes on ebay and most of my customers in the last few weeks are very new to collecting Joes and have only begun since the retro line hit.
