I was there when Hasbro did this to Marvel. I tried to support the Legends line but after a few core figures, I got bored. I gave them to my son who went ahead and dismantled most of them(I have a bunch of heads and hands in a plastic box somewhere). Now with GI Joe if Hasbro does the same, I am not even trying. Hopefully they would keep it balanced like they are doing with Star Wars!!!

Aside from a few holes in my modern era lineup that are missing or are seriously need an update (like v1 Scarlett), I give no shits if Hasbro moves 100% to the 6" scale for GI Joe. They have done all that can be done with the 3.75" scale, and the main reason they stopped doing it was because it wasn't selling any more. The vast majority of the collector's market has shifted to 6"-7" and it's high-time Hasbro followed suit.
Again, to the naysayers, you can't expect Hasbro to cater solely to you if your dollars aren't enough to sustain a line, which has been proven to be the case. If you want to stubbornly turn your nose up at Classifed that's your loss, but the line is already selling well and bringing in new and/or returning fans. And the more fans that come in to support the brand, the bigger the chance that Hasbro will expand things in the future and possibly bring back a side-line of 3.75" figures for the hardcore fans. And no one can argue that Classified are super high-quality for $20 figures. Hasbro is clearly going all-out with this line in terms of paint, articulation, plastic quality, etc. And as for you, needagungho, perhaps you could explain why 6" figures are "boring." Or any aspect of your viewpoint on Classified and why you don't like it beyond "6-inch bad."

Star Wars really isn't balanced though. 6" is the dominant collector expression, and while TVC has been on an upswing of sorts, it's still a secondary consideration to 6". And the dedicated kids segment is all over the place with things like Galaxy of Heroes (5.5" animated figures) being joined/replaced by the Mission Fleet series (2.5" figures with vehicles).
GI Joe has doggedly stuck to 3.75 since 2007...and it has still had issues finding a foothold at retail even when the general market was in broad support of the scale to begin with. GI Joe thriving is going to give us a better chance at the kind of product we want, and if that means Joe has to expand to some odd ball scales to give it the best opportunity then so be it, IMO.

I'm fine with them going exclusively 6 inch but since we already know that's not the case, I guess the point is moot.

I will be disappointed in that I will not be getting much of the 6" figures, but I'll be glad that Joe is on the shelves again. Maybe I can make 4" customs of some of the new 6" figures if they are killer figures.
I have pre-ordered Toyfair SE and the 6" Destro, but I'm stopping there. I just wanted some figures to pose with my Vala figures that I ordered.

Imagine creating a massive avengers vs xmen battle with 40 figures on each side or a gi joe vs cobra battle with soldiers, planes and vehicles running all around..Now scale that to 6" and you get the idea!

Yeah, my plan is to maybe put together the Cobra upper command, a few troopers or Vipers, maybe CGs if they have them. And a VERY small GI Joe group of my favorite squad, say six plus the leader of the team be it Flint or Duke, and then backed by several Valaverse Steel Brigade as "troopers".
That's it, and otherwise happy with a lot of the other companies that are not hasbro (and I hope more to come) on the indie side in 4". |
