This is the first post I've made here in years. I'm interested in GI Joe again because of the 6" offerings. I remember I was out as soon as I saw the price tag on FSS and saw Hasbro mostly regurgitating figures for 50th line.
I still have a lot of vintage, and I love the 3.75-4" figures I have but I'm selling off handfuls of my modern era ones to both free up space and finance my new scale collection. |

I want to be able to enjoy the brand of GI Joe as a whole, and if quality, interesting product is coming out, I like to be able to participate in it, without feeling hindered by scale, style, or any such criteria.

I only collect the smaller figures and have no use for the 6" ones. If they made them decent enough looking I would maybe get maybe one like The Commander or Baroness just to display on a shelf or something with other random stuff. But they already lost my money on that cus these look horrible, in my opinion anyways.
I know everyone has there own taste and opinions on what direction GI Joe should go in and look like, but i like mine to look like the characters I grew up with more or less. I hate all the random red and gold on these figures and I extra specially hate the metal armor on em. |

I'm up for the rare favorite character purchase to decorate a shelf, but that's it.

Care meter couldn't be any closer to ZERO. 4in had its time and it was a blast, but my Joes are 6in now.

I’m not interested in 6” but them going only 6” might be a good thing.

I doubt I have anything of value to add, but hey, that has never stopped me.
I am out. I see no value for me for 6 inch. I love the almost compatibility across lines of 1:18. Vehicles and playsets, even ones I make myself, are part of the deal and 6 inch gets unwieldy. Even a scale 1:18 plane or boat is freaking huge. Also, I have 40+ year old 3.75 figures and vehicles, and stuff I bought last week. I am not switching scales. That is not to say outside of vehicle issues, 6 inch *might* be a superior scale. Bigger and more detailed, but not huge like 12 inch. I don't know. I feel like these are the same arguments gun guys have. .308 is too big for some uses, .223 is too small, so you get .243 but them some want .270, and then you get the .25'06 guy. Or, 9 mm is too small, .45 ACP is the choice, but now everyone is like .40 cal is best compromise except for those 10 mm and .41 mag holdouts. All I want to do is buy one, not three different scales. And even if 6 inch is arguably superior, 3.75 is where my investment is. I also am open to the argument that ARAH 80s characters have had their run. I love the idea of an old Baroness bringing up the next gen, is her grandkid (because realistically we would be roughly the same age as her kids) a terrorist or a hero? Even though it would be stretching reality a little, I would love to see (as is my own joeverse) a BGen Falcone in charge, maybe even deputy undersecretary of defense for global integration joint execution and operations Falcone? Operating out of dusty Pentagon annex. New characters and a couple of old hands on scene to train the new guys, instead of a reboot. Maybe even re-use some codenames and make that part of the GI Joe mythos and traditions. "Son, you have earned the code name: Gung Ho. This name previously belonged to Master Gunnery Sergeant Lafitte, use this name with pride and honor." Something like that, tying the old to the new. make earning the code name part of the story. You could make these new characters whatever then, because they would be new. I hate the idea of rebooting a character to make him fit whatever the current "underrepresented" victim class is, but if RnR retired and the next RnR is a punk rock butch lesbian? (shrugs) Not sure though that there is even a following for GI Joe outside of kids wanting to join the service going forward. ; |
