Never! I've been collecting the vintage stuff since 1982 and have no plans on stopping now. I love the Anniversary stuff, but nothing will ever replace the classics to me.

Yeah, as much as I love the Old School stuff, the 25th figures are the figures I've dreamed of since I was a kid. So slowly but surely, I'm phasing my old stuff out. However, characters that I don't think will be made into the 25th style, I'm still keeping. Which brings up the question, how long is the 25th line going to last, and who'll be made?

Word has it that Joe will continue strong in '08 and with a movie coming in '09, it's doubtful that our beloved Modern Army Figures will leave the toy arena any time soon.
As for the question this thread poses....yes, for me the 25th definitely replaced the ARAH line. The old school figures are dated. As such, they deserve their place in history, but not on my shelf. My older figures get put in clam shells and stored away, to make room for the next generation of G.I.Joe Figures. |

Yeah I gotta admit... its totally replacing my old stuff.
I mean, 25th isn't perfect, but its heads and tales above most of the rest... the other stuff just looks dated - and by dated I mean slightly goofy - next to them!

Nope...not even close.
Yes...the detailing and articulation is superb in the new 25th anniv items...but I feel they lack the sturdiness of the originals. I had no worries in giving my son some vintage figs when he was 4...but I was leary on him playing with 25th anniv ones, he is now 6...I still worry at times about it. lol

Not a chance. My ARAH stuff will always be priority #1. The 25th line is pretty cool but it doesn't have the same sentimental value.
And honestly, I think the 80's figures are better than the 25th in some ways. Their hands holds the weapons better, the weapons themselves are designed better and are of a higher quality (gung-ho, etc). The size proportions are more accurate (small heads, legs, etc). ...ARAH will never be replaced.

Replaced...no. I still treasure my vintage, I like the 25th. (But then again, I collected those when I was a kid, so its more of nostalgia). I do dig the 25th a lot and I think today's collectors and the next generation of GI Joe fans will love them.
But right now, I'm opening up all my sigma 6 related figures and digging them way more than I expected.

My vintage Joes are still in the little wooden box I placed them in years ago. The VvV and DTC stuff is still out, but it does look so dated next to the new 25th line.
Even my new Convention Steeler, Rip-it, and the rest of the 07 set can't stack up to the look of the new series.

I plan on dumping my older troop builders as soon as the newer ones are out (like my v2-v4 BATS, night creepers and 6pack reissue Vipers)
My originals (BAT 1.0, Viper 1.0 eetc will remail in my collection, just not on display. I agree with several of the above posters. 25th is awesome, but you cant beat the nostalgia value. |
