Ugghhh—I discovered this too late. I moved in NOV, unboxed in MAR, and some of my figures were twice as bad. My 84 SS is almost Trump-orange.

My CC is still good, although he’s only been out of the package for about a month, now...

I don’t have this figure, but the same problem happened with my Wide Scope and my CP Scrap Iron from that era...and I NEVER played with this Scrap Iron. My figures are bagged, boxed and locked in a dark closet.
The same happened with my Lt. Gorky and my “apprentice” Snakes Eyes (25th), both molded in light gray plastic. My originals CC, SE, Shipwreck and Gung Ho are perfect, so I’m inclined to think that 21st. Century plastic is even worst than 80s one. Does anybody have a good result on washing yellowed figures with hidrogen peroxid? |

‘Preciate it, but I refuse to “fix” up figures; it’s just vintage charm.

Man, this thread is making me paranoid about all of the figures I have in sandwich bags currently. I'm definitely going to order some of those acid-free bags.
If anyone has some guidance on what kind of artificial lighting to avoid, please pass it on!

Flourescents are out, your standard incandescents are out, I haven't tested LEDs long enough to know, as I switched all of my old lights out for LED track lights only about a year ago, so jury's out but looking good. As a general rule I now try and keep blue and white figures to the back when possible... but after reading this today I was digging around in a box of old Joes and found an 84 Wild Weasel with a darker inner thigh. Not a good sign, because he's been boxed away unbagged with some spare parts for ages. Moral of the story I guess is that nothing lasts forever.

Yeah, the worst part was my vintage 1983, still mint-on-card Cobra Commander (on the Japanese card.) Never exposed to light of ANY kind. Just kept in a box in a closet. Pulled it out a few years later and half his leg was green.
I think the saddest truth is no matter how careful we are, these things are still gonna break down. O-rings will break. Elbows will crack while still mint on card. Whites will yellow and blues will green. Obviously, we can do our best to keep these nice as long as possible, but the breakdown of these cheap plastics is 100% inevitable. The thing that upsets me more is that the Spy Troops CC is not even 20 years old; that's relatively new. Our original Joes are almost 40. There's sadly not much we can do, other than enjoy the time we have with them like we would any loved one. |

Acid Free Zip Loc is going to be hard to find internationally, so I've been thinking of some alternatives:
Comic Book Bags. You'd want to put a bunch in one, but you can reseal them and they're acid free archival quality. Paper Bags. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have any acid in them since comic book shops use them. Will have to write on them and replace them and the sticky tape a bit, but they should be safe. EDIT: Why not Post Card Sleeves? They're a bit bigger than a figure, but not the size of Comic Bags. Just gotta use tape to make it resealable.
