What do you guys use for your Arashikage dojo? Years ago fisher price had a cool little ninja hq. I havn't seen it since. Someone mentioned the play mobile Asian castle to me but I looked it up and it was almost 200 bucks. Anyone just make their own?

If I'm going to make one, it'll be lined balsa wood sheet for the floor, lined balsa wood sheet for the walls. And glue them to a sanded xps foam painted white. A few strips of balsa for detailing. I'd also stain the wood with brown shoe polish or india ink + alcohol wash. Ceiling is also made of balsa wood sheet. I'll only make it one storey.
Dojo don't have tatami and shoji. That's silly. Might as well put origami while you're at it. You'd wreck your good tatami and shoji screens with all the intense footwork and sword swings, not to mention the bloodstains. That's why when a samurai are expecting a fight in their house, they put their tatami in storage. Tea rooms have tatami and shoji, not dojo.

Depends on the school. For primarily swordsmanship and bojutsu, hardwood is fine. Even jujutsu kata on hardwood are common in koryu arts. But if you're doing extended newaza or randori with throws, holds and chokes, you want some sort of mat.

Indeed, jujutsu dojo should have tatami but Arashikage is primarily weapon-based, which is Why I intended hardwood in my concept.
