Joe collectors should keep an eye out for this stuff being resold and try to help find the culprit. 3 Flaggs were among the stolen goods.

A collector [Mark Vanzee] in Longmont says tens of thousands of dollars worth of his vintage toys and rare action figures were stolen.
A large portion of his massive collection is made up of G.I. Joe memorabilia. “The G.I. Joe is a pretty hot market right now. The 80s genre stuff is starting to come back around and soar in value,” he said. Longmont police say it was a clear break-in on Feb. 16 at around 10:30 a.m. at the mini storage near 3rd Avenue and Hover Street. Vanzee estimates the loss of nearly $30,000. “A loose aircraft carrier can go for, I don’t know, $900 to $1,2000 loose and then in the box, $3,000 upwards.” Vanzee had three in the storage room. If you know anything about the theft you can call Longmont police at (303) 651-8555. |

Yikes. That’s really sad. Hope they catch whoever did it.

I am a bit skeptical here. That much stuff just doesn't walk away it took someone with a truck and a bit of knowledge of what they were getting into. Most likely this was someone he knew.

I have toured a number of storage facilities. This looks like a mom and pop kind of place. Around Austin Texas, those places very often have chicken wire in the top foot or two. So someone could easily look into adjoining units to assess which ones they want to break into, or give a heads up to their buddies/partners. Depending on the location of a unit in the building, the size of the units, and the size of any gaps at the top, I suspect an endoscope or similar type camera would give people a good idea of which unit to target. |

My unit in Colorado Springs was broken into Easter weekend of 2017, got me for over $60,000 between my Joe, Star Wars, Marvel Universe, and Sideshow Joes. Pretty much 90% of my collection gone. Seems they were taking stuff out day by day and only reason they got caught was because on their last trip, they didn't close the door all the way after locking it back. And the storage manager on her hourly property check, called me and said I left the door open.
Of course living in Illinois and not being in Colorado or in my unit for over a year, I knew I was jacked. Got back to Colorado a week later and soon as I opened that door, I was crushed as 20 years worth of collecting gone(as well as my Army awards and barely worn Nike's). Punks even took a bag of dirty laundry.

That's rough. After something like that, do you decide to keep collecting new items, re-buy some of the old stuff you lost, or sell off everything you have left?

This is rough. How do you recover from something like this?

I thought the exact same thing. I doubt someone just started breaking into units. These people knew what they were going for so I suspect he knows the thieves.
