I say return, but I actually have never "collected" GI Joe figures, unless you count buying as many as I could in the 1980s as a kid. I had a ton back then, and acquired even more when my stepbrother lost interest. Unfortunately, at some point he either sold them or my dad got rid of them, and so I don't have a single vintage figure left. (As an aside, my most vivid GI Joe memory is the Christmas I asked for two Cobra officers and my parents and grandparents wondered why I'd want two of the same figure. That was just the beginning of my army building madness, I guess.)
Recently, for some random reason, I started searching for Cobra troopers on eBay. Seeing some of the figures there made me want to create a small GI Joe display to go along with my Masters of the Universe Classics and Masterpiece Transformers (well, Soundwave). I had resisted GI Joe for a long time because 6" has been my preferred scale as an adult collector ever since I liquidated my POTF Star Wars figures when I got married. I basically decided that 3.75" figures simply don't look great and that the 6" is the only suitable size for display (and this was aided by how awesome Masters of the Universe Classics figures are and the improving quality of the Star Wars Black Series). But I decided that I wanted a small group of about three blueshirts and some version of the classic Cobra Commander. This, of course, lead to some problems. I was completely unfamiliar with the state of GI Joe. What figures would be best? The excellent figure archive at yojoe was a help (although only at showing me what looked best; imagine my surprise at how rare many of these figures are, particularly the only decent looking Baroness). People on here helped with an early thread. So I took the plunge and bought six 2013 Cobra troopers (POC or Retaliation) and then an ultimate Cobra Commander. When I got the six Cobra troopers in the mail, I was blown away by how much I loved them. As a kid, I had a lot of toys. And I remember MOTU, Star Wars, and Transformers. But my most vivid memories of having fun playing were with GI Joes. And those troopers brought all of that back. These blueshirts were simply awesome. They stand up. They hold their guns. They are posable. And that has lead me down the rabbit hole. I've bought 11 more troopers, Destro, some female Joes from the ROC line (yeah, the head sculpt on Cover Girl is amazingly bad, but I was hoping pictures didn't do it justice), female Cobra troopers, and a Social Clash two-pack from BBTS (shockingly cheap). I'm sad that the ARAH phase of GI Joe might be coming to an end, but I'm super thrilled to get some of my Cobra favorites again. Anyway, sorry for the long post. Here are some pics of figures I'm sure everyone has seen a million times. I'm still settling on how to display what I've purchased, but I just had to start manipulating the ones that I liked best. I want to thank everyone here who has helped me get started over the last week or so. Last edited by jscott991; 06-28-2018 at 09:35 PM.. |

It looks like you have enough troopers? I see that you are following a cream of the crop policy. Not a bad idea as you get less "stuff," but it also has the most competition. Ultimate Storm Shadow will blow your mind, it is fantastically awesome.
That being said, this is also a good price, the SS in this is pretty swell too: https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Produ...nDetails/41076 |

You can never have enough troopers!
Yeah, I'm not a completitionist with anything I collect. I grab the characters I like and the versions that look best. Right now, I'm sort of at a loss to what else I want (if anything). I don't have many favorite Joes, but would I like a small group of like Duke, Snake Eyes, and/or Flint to go with my Scarlett, Cover Girl, and Lady Jaye? If so, figuring out what versions are affordable and look decent could be my next project. I'd love a good Storm Shadow. I couldn't find a really affordable one that I liked. I'll investigate more based on that tip. I'm going to try my hand at painting a custom Baroness head instead of paying an enormous amount for a 2013 Baroness. |

The good news is that you already have that Baroness, you just need a casted and painted head of the 2013 version.
The BBTS case has the best or second best Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow (that Arashikage Clash set alone goes for $30-40+ now), a good Duke (there is no perfect one). Then you could sell the rest to break even or so, or keep them. Flint is tough to pick up, the best and second best are running $20+ loose (50th and Resolute). Some of the later 25th ones are not bad either, but not as good IMO. As for Scarlett, like Duke, there is no perfect one. They are all flawed. The best version may be a combination of Resolute body (not cheap) plus 25th head. Alternatively, you could easy paint job a Corps Snakebite + Marauders head or just go all Marauders. It doesn't make sense that there is no 2010+ Sunbow Duke and Scarlett, but that is how it is. The Ultimate Storm Shadow and Retataliation "Ultimate" Snake Eyes are pretty great as well (and may haunt you). Why not both? I have both plus quite a few more of others. Enough to have White Ninja Gang vs Ninja Commando Gang. The good thing about having too many Snake Eyes is that they can generally be anyone, just change the head- Night Force/Ninja Force X. |

Congrats on getting the best ME troop builder IMO. The other "Ult." Troop builders to consider are the Ret. Crimson Guard figures and the 50th Shadow Crimson Guard.
