Hope items are recovered. First and foremost never buy any items that you suspect that are stolen. You definitely do not want to reward thieves. When it comes to the theft of toys, especially G.I. Joes, the punishment should be severe. Personally I think Hung, Drawn and Quartered is a fitting punishment for that crime.

Not all of it. I got back what he had with him, but I didn't get my Gi Joe Marvel series and DC event series like Crisis on Infinite Earths back. I did buy them again with my insurance payment. However, I made a number of vinyl super hero and sci fi models that I never located.

He didn't have it with him in the store, and there wasn't any info saying it was at his residence in order to get a warrant. Through another store owner I found a second guy who had sold some of my comics, but he did not have anything with him when he was arrested.

Yes. I thought I posted this previously, but a couple of guys came by when I had my storage unit open and went to their own which was nearby. After his arrest one guy admitted that he had seen what I had. Since they had access to the place they probably went at a time when no one else had been around.
If the guys had been smart and tried to sell my stuff a town or two away, they probably would not have been caught. Glad that they were not criminal masterminds. Cobra Commander would have relegated these guys to the leaky suit Toxoviper squad. |

I have to admire the self control. I am not sure that if I caught a thief with any of my stuff, GI Joe or even scrap lumber, that he would he would be able to walk to his jail cell.

I have thought about getting a storage unit in the past but honestly I have worried if something happened and I wasn't able to pay and it went to auction. I also hear stories like this after thinking they are secure but if you really think about it all they have to do it cut the lock and raise a garage door (maybe some have keypads, etc?). Ill pass.

Just wanted to give my .02 on storage facilities:
I can see renting a storage unit if you are in the middle of moving to a new place, and need a place to store your belongings in the interim. However, paying $100 - $300 a month for a unit (I think that's around the average price for a storage unit) for any length of time longer than 1-2 months is IMHO a waste of money. Depending on the value of the items you're storing, it will be either a short period of time (or maybe a longer period of time) before you will end up paying more for the storage than the items are even worth. I don't see the logic in doing this. Not only that, but as per the OP having your valuables off-site & away from your home increases the chances of them getting stolen and/or damaged. If you've got an apartment/house to store things in, store them in there & don't use a storage unit. And, if you don't have enough room for your belongings, get rid of some of them. In my case, I have a relatively small place & do have some collectibles. However, I take great pains to not buy more stuff than I have room for. And, I'm always thinking of ways to streamline/downsize my collection(s). Last edited by Doctor Venom; 04-18-2020 at 11:20 PM.. |
