So some of us feel that GI Joe shouldn't be catered to the kids. Some of us feel GI Joe should cater to the kids. Some feel GI Joe should cater to both. Me, personally...I feel GI Joe should cater to both. But what does that mean? Didn't GI Joe cater to the kids(us) back in the 80s? Isn't the same ARAH GI Joe line that we still buy from garage sales, Craigslist, eBay, and our fellow Tankers, the same GI Joe that we hold near and dear to our hearts, the same GI Joe that we want modern updates of, the same GI Joe that was catered to us as kids? Isn't that what was shown through GI Joe's glory years like from the toy catalogs?
So why not have a kid focused line? Why not have both? I feel like Hasbro should do this: A collector focused line of 4" figures and small playsets and vehicles. An actual re-introduction starting with new and improved updates of the Original 13 Joe's and on the Cobra side, start with the Ultimate Cobra Commander and a POC inspired Cobra Officer and Cobra Trooper. Re-release the HAL, the FLAK, the VAMP, the MMS, and the RAM Cycle. And the next wave should bring about new updates of the 83 figures. And keep going from there. A more adult oriented GI Joe cartoon. Of course the movies, which would automatically bring a movie line, no doubt. A 6" line(even though I'm not a 6" collector, but if done right...) with a few main characters. A kid focused line. Figures that are more cartoony that will capture the kid's attention and have a decent kid focused GI Joe cartoon. A toddler line that resembles the Mighty Heroes figures with the playsets and vehicles to match. So what do you think? Should Joe be kid focused? Adult focused? Both? And how should Hasbro re-launch the GI Joe line? Discuss... Last edited by sbartek1974; 01-11-2020 at 12:17 AM.. |

I say make a cool line that is not dumbed down in any way but still appropriate for kids, almost like RoC’s toyline.

You can do both, but it should be primarily aimed at kids.

Selfish me says "screw the little buggers, they can have their iPads and Xboxes, gimme my toys", and then I step back for a moment, and think about that. In my opinion, passing the torch along and maintaining a 55 year old legacy is more important, otherwise it dies with us. Kids are different now, and what was absolute magic to us 80s/90's kids doesn't have the same appeal to this generation, just as those 12" Joes didn't for me.
I was very opposed to this not 3 years ago, and then I had one of my biggest wtf moments: A buddy brought his kids by with him, they saw my Joes, and asked what they were... and my buddy is a figure collector, no less (not Joes). Damned heartbreaking, that what was once the most prestigious line of toys in existence might be doomed to fade away and be forgotten after I'm gone. In an ideal world, I'd say both. But if it came down to the choice between Joe staying the same and having 20ish years left in a niche collector's market, or evolving and achieving true timelessness, I say let the kids have it. They are toys, after all, and it's not as though I can take them with me when I go. All of that aside, I still want more toys, dammit! |

I would say both too. Let it reboot if it has to be. To appeal to kids there has to be a media tie in that’s at least bearable to watch, but realistically has to be golden.
