That’s my one fear, that the kids show will be mentally retarded like Star Wars Resistance.

A PG-13 or higher rating on the movie means most of the target kids' demographic probably won't be seeing it. That will make the toys a harder sell, regardless of what form they take. That would largely defeat the purpose of a media tie-in. Follow that up with an adult-oriented cartoon and I think you'll complete your failure. This is the part where I think you really do have to choose between aiming it at kids or aiming it at adults. Both of the previous live-action movies, in addition to being turds, were not child-appropriate enough that I would take a 5- or 6-year-old to them, which is what you really, really need if you want to work GI Joe into kids' lives.
So, movie-wise, skip the mild profanity and shoehorned-in sexual situations so it can clear a simple PG rating on the basis of mild on-screen (mostly implied) death and violence. Choreograph all the goofy, ridiculous dancing ninja sword fights you want (fucking ninjas...ugh) but stop short of on-screen blood and guts. Make it a simple, exciting story kids will like and adults can, at a minimum, tolerate (since we'll also have to sit through it). Toy-wise, make attractive toys of good quality and you can enjoy the support of kids and adult collectors alike. This is the part where you don't HAVE to split the baby. I don't see a reason the scale MUST change. (Is there any clinical reason kids cannot and will not play with 1:18 figures?) I don't see any reason Sigma-Six body proportions MUST be used for kids to want to play with the figures, either. So many people just toss those two assertions out there while squawking "we had our time, now give them what they want!" Where is the evidence that they will positively demand goofy-shaped new-scale figures? If you want to argue about whether or not to continue having removable web gear or if you want to debate reducing articulation because those factors can harm actual play value, let's have that discussion. I can see some points there. But the huge head/hands/feet and making it 5" or larger...why? The reason 12" died was not because it was 12" it was because 3-3/4" had clear advantages and great playability. Unless and until you find similarly compelling advantages in another scale, why do people assume a scale change is a must?

I say both. I saw the spin master DC guys and they are legit. Of course not realistic like MTF or Joy Toy but pretty cool. Like Trooper said though, to keep kids attention it has to be golden. With sugar on it.

I'd don't think the disconnect has anything to do with scale or aesthetics, myself.
I think the overall theme of "our" GIJoe is a product of the era and doesn't resonate with today's kids as much. 6 inch figures are definitely not going to fix that. |

While I agree with Zap, tons of kids do see PG-13 movies such as Marvel and Star Wars, and even the mild violence of GI Joe will not be allowed in a modern PG rating simply because any serious/non-comedic violence with realistic weapons instantly bumps you up from PG to PG-13.

I think that kids would watch a pg-13 movie, but the cartoon series (if there is one that follows it) has got to be aimed at kids to succeed
