One thing you touched on that I forgot to mention. Now that I'm running out of space, I *have* started rotating out displays. There are a few shelves/spots that I consider "primetime" spots, the monday night football of spots. And I've recently begun my first rotating out. This way, different crews can have their time in the spot-light.

I have my favorite figures on my man-cave wall in Protech Star cases, and some of my favorite larger figures like Star Wars Black Series, NECA, Marvel Legends, Disney Elite, Unleashed and DC Multiverse in the same area, but my vehicles are all boxed in storage. Just no room, and I don't want it to look like a cluttered mess.

I collect Batman and Gi Joe. I have one room for Batman statues, 12 inch figures, and replica costumes. The other room has my Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow statues, 12 inch Sideshow Gi Joes, and 4 inch Joes and vehicles. I have Batman and Gi Joe comics and books in numerous cabinets and one closet. I also have some Batman play sets and True Heroes 1:18 vehicles in my garage (but I can still park cars in it). You can see part of my collection in the collection threads on Hiss Tank. The funny thing is that even though my wife shakes her head at my collection, she is the one who put together the cabinets in the Joe room when I was overseas, and offered the area for the Batman collection in what was once a formal living room.
In addition to the above, I used to have a storage locker with numerous items. It was broken into and I had numerous toys and comics stolen. I caught the thieves but a number of items were not recovered, so I gave up keeping things in a storage locker. The trade off is that because I no longer had the space for everything, I sold most of my comics and toys that are not Batman and Joe related, like my 90's Toy Biz Marvel and McFarlane Spawn collections. Currently, I am mostly collecting vintage Joes which I can display on shelves that go up the wall in a room with a vaulted ceiling. I am limited on vehicle space to a few bookcases so I have most;y gone with classic Joe and Cobra vehicles. Anyway, that is a long winded answer to your question of how people handle their collections. I definitely like the set up you have. I would like to see additional photos. |

Unfortunately I have used up my allotment of photo space on Hiss Tank. If you go to The collections thread and look at Part of My Gi Joe Collection, you will see photos of my Joe room. It has grown since then. Maybe I will have to delete a few photos and replace them with updated ones. A few pictures of my Batman collection are in the non-GiJoe thread. I should probably do some short YouTube videos of the collections and post the links. It would definitely be amateur video though.

My wife is very supportive on my toy collecting, and loves super heroes/sci fi/fantasy stuff, but does not enjoy my military/GI Joe stuff as much. So in our basement, the current plan is I have a small room that is all mine for joes, we have a gameroom that will house our boardgames and some display cases for general geek/toydom, and I stole the top shelf in a tucked away storage room for display shelves(multiple shelving units, same height shelf down the whole run). Its a generous amount of space, albeit in three areas of our basement. The storage unit is also where Ill keep the toys not on display. I also think having a variety of display options helps keep the collection fresh and avoids visual clutter. By that I mean changing size or style of the shelf/case itself, and try to break up the displays. Ideas I am playing around with are: 1. A combo of glass display cases and wooden shelves/bookcases 2. half height display cases with room on the wall for art, mixed in with higher shelving units 4. Some areas have stuff hanging from the ceiling, other areas I will keep clean and clear 5. If I have a heavy troop building or visually dense display, put something larger and less crowded on the shelf close to it. 6. Mixing shapes and colors of displays. (Dino shelf next to Super heroes, next to lego, etc) I am also getting spotlight display frames which will let me rotate my art easily. check them out here: Quality Movie Poster Frames for Any Size Movie Poster. Real popular with the movie poster crowd, reviews seem to be solid.
