The PoC and RoC guys are a solid, hard plastic like the vintage guys (but not as brittle). Some are a bit more flexible, for instance the Alley Viper, but they're are all rock solid compared to 50th. Retaliation guys are more pliable than RoC, but again are way more solid than 50th. All the club figures are solid.

Correct me if I've got this wrong, but I've always understood the FSS to be basically "factory quality customs" licensed by Hasbro to a third party? If that's on point, it'd be a likely explanation. Also, I'm wondering if the 50th quality was what it was because Hasbro had already seen the writing on the wall at that point in terms of profit.

I have to disagree on the club figures being pretty solid. The Tiger Force Hit n Run has the soft plastic for the knees which is a pain for me. Just comparing the same knee molds, I noticed it when I first got, and then when I got the 50th firefly, it was the same. The SDCC Flint is not like I think (someone can correct me if im wrong, it has been awhile since ive handled it). I have six of the final twelve, and i is the only one with that soft plastic.

I've always been into toys for the pure nostalgia, and so I tend to be drawn to the originals in every line that I collect. I think a lot of the initial disdain for 25th and forward was instilled in me by the new sculpts, actually. RAHC was what kicked of my collecting in the first place, and I even continued through the VvV figures, almost compulsively. one day I looked at my shelves, and said " what am I doing? Not only do I not like 90% of these figures, but they're not MY GI Joe, I'm only buying these because I got tricked into it by the rerelease of the originals". So I promptly gave nearly all of that era away, save the few redecoed ARAH types, and decided if I was going to feed nostalgia, I'd do it at the source.
As a result, Once the 25th were released, I saw them and thought that they looked cool, but they again weren't my Joes. Coming here, and specifically to the customs section has really changed that. The work of guys like RV88, Shakka85, and JLW515 is nothing short of inspiring, and I think seeing their work has really put the line in a new light. I still find most of the construction aspect of the modern joes to be a bit problematic, as I've said elsewhere on site the softer plastic makes for an overly loose figure and in turn a bit of a nightmare to gear up, but from a purely aesthetic standpoint, they're awesome figures. I can safely say that if the news we got today is true, I'll be at WalMart buying Joes again in the near future, which I've missed- It's been more than 15 years since I did that! |

I’m kind of digging the Cobra Venom Cycle too.

You know, it's funny, there definitely ARE some new sculpt figures I really liked, the VvV Bazooka is a good example of that, and I remember a Cobra Commander that stood out. I also LOVED the comic pack stuff, updating the old figures with new head sculpts was awesome. I think a lot of what hurt those three lines was a lack of consistent design. It was almost as if they couldn't settle on what look they wanted to have from figure to figure, and so we got a few pretty good designs like the ones I mentioned already, and even more that were not so great, like the weird animal hybrids and most of the JvC line. To further add to that, as much as I loved the ARAH redecoes they were releasing occasionally at the time, it only added to the inconsistency, as they just didn't fit well together. As an example, the spy troops "army builder" pack with the viper/alley viper combo looked way out of place alongside the Alley viper II/VvV Viper (that viper also wasn't too shabby).
As far as vehicles go, I was just recently reminded of how cool the Night Attack Chopper was in another thread, and I also really liked the Patriot Grizzly. All of that aside, I have to admit I often find myself wondering if at some point I won't become nostalgic for that era as well, though. I did have quite a large collection of them, and it's been long enough for that bug to set in.

I’d say to just wait to see the new stuff. The new sculpt vehicles are cool, but imho the figures aren’t worth it at all.
