well ARAH styled figures have been dead awhile. You know, the o-ring Joes. I feel real bad for the folks that did not cross over from the metal rivets into the 25th figures because I know there is no way they would be buying the movie figures. If 25th didn't sell them on the idea, then these abominations surly wont.

I think the file cards are to match the security badges the Joes wear. The Cover Girl figure actually has the badge on. I would have liked to see classic file cards for the new figures.

G.I. Joe modern era and Resolute will slide in with the rest of the RoC merchandise until its run its course (sometime in 2010). I can see them providing us with some kind of G.I. Joe universe type packaging later on that will allow them to make all versions of Joes in any assortment they like.

The movie is the new universe. They will continue to make new stuff and redo old molds for now until people stop buying it.
ARAH has been dead for a long time. It wasn't revived for the anniversary. Those were new style Joes based on the vintage designs but they weren't the same. When the O-Ring disappeared and Joe became Spytroops and Valor vs Venom, that's when ARAH died.

I don't think it's dead. Just in a coma.

If folks would actually read and comprehend what Hasbro's been saying (and yes, I realize it's often contradictory and difficult to discern) they're basically saying that they're looking at putting out classic figures and resolute figures in multi-packs and exclusives, and furthermore have stated that "our 2010 plans are still being finalized but our focus is on the movie for now." But folks want to ignore that so they can complain some more about things they've known for months. Beyond that, it's marketing. Hasbro isn't going to announce new classic product outside of conventions (probably Toy Fair of next year at that), and they're not going to announce it in the middle of trying to market their movie line. Think about how that would look to retailers: "Hey, we're already ditching this movie stuff because some people on message boards don't like it! We're not even going to give it a chance to be successful before we dump it!" Quote:
Why can’t Hasbro make three styles of packaging, one for each line, Classic 25th, Resolute and Movie figures?
If the movie product is a big hit and sells well, then there's a much more realistic chance of something like that happening. Expecting it to happen prior to the movie or concurrent with the movie is blaming Hasbro for something they can't control...if the retailers won't buy multiple lines Hasbro won't make them. None of this is any different from the way Hasbro handles virtually ALL movie releases. The six months or so around the movie are all movie-themed product, maybe extending out as far as a year and a half, then the line gets re-branded, usually including more "classic" product to fill in the six months to a year before the new movie comes out. We've seen it three times with Star Wars now, and once with Transformers. Why do people find it so hard to believe that Hasbro will return to the "classic G.I. Joe" well too? I know a lot of folks say, I will never buy another GI Joe after the movie, or I won't buy anything not single carded, but I speak the truth: if after 2010, they change the figures again from the 25th/ME articulation and styling, I'm out. I would be surprised if they did this, but they are hinting about major changes in the line in the near future. I hope this isn't the case.

Things change, hopefully they get better too. Resolute is a good example of G.I. Joe getting better. Maybe Hasbro will take a cue from Harry Potter and try to provide something for their audience as it gets older. Had they put something like Resolute out in the late 80's instead of going all weird I would have continued to buy figures.
Let's just hope they keep putting stuff out so we can continue doing customs at least. |
