I collect a lot if Joe stuff, and my statues and 12 inch figures (including Sideshow ones) are out of the boxes on display. My vintage vehicles are also loose and on display. My modern figures are still on the card but can be seen, just like some the modern diorama sets and smaller modern vehicles can be viewed while still in the boxes.
My question however, is whether to break the seal and open up those larger modern vehicle boxes, the ones where you don't see the actual toy. Some of these MIB vehicles seem to fetch a good price on eBay, though I have no intention on selling them in the near future. What are your thoughts on this matter? Do most of you open or keep them mint? |

For me, it sorta depends on the box and the toy. I'm a compulsive opener, meaning I just can't help myself when it comes to opening toys. The unboxing/assembly is part of the experience for me. It's a nostalgia thing, which is the whole reason I do this. I opened them as a kid and that's always going to be my reference point, so keeping a toy in a box makes zero sense to me.
That said, the 25th window boxes make it easier to keep them sealed, I suppose, because you can appreciate the vehicle's appearance without opening it. I still open them though...I just have to handle the toy and sticker it and zoom it around making pew-pew noises if only for a minute. I often then put the vehicle back in box (when it's 25th-style window packaging) because it allows me to still easily view the toy while keeping it dust free and giving me an excuse to keep the box, since it also takes up less space that way (as opposed to displaying the toy out of the box AND storing the box itself). Funny thing is, when they were first revealed, I wasn't happy with those 25th window boxes because they weren't like the original packaging with a big panel of artwork. Now though, I appreciate the hell out of them. |

I agree with most of what is said. I have opened all the CFT western figures I have purchased. I know they are not vehicles, but the same logic for me. I also recently acquired a peddler's wagon in the opened box, no stickers applied, and most of the accessories still on the trees. Not sure what to do here, It is open, and I have put the wagon together, but I haven't taken the accessories off the trees.

i say go for it, for me the true value is the toys themselves. call me nuts, but if i stumbled across a MOC '85 snakeeyes, i'd open it just to relive the feeling of past christmases, birthdays, etc. can't take it with you after all! besides, the "collector's market" won't exist forever, and is bound to bottom out eventually.

With me? I open them and then do this. I collect GI Joe for fun.
A sealed box is not enjoyable at all for me. Oh... and I always throw away the box!
