Always, always open open open. Otherwise your toys become bitter Stinky Pete’s who sound like Fraiser and try to talk Woody into living in a toy museum.

i say go for it, for me the true value is the toys themselves. call me nuts, but if i stumbled across a MOC '85 snakeeyes, i'd open it just to relive the feeling of past christmases, birthdays, etc. can't take it with you after all! besides, the "collector's market" won't exist forever, and is bound to bottom out eventually.

This has been a helpful thread for me. I've got TONS (and I do mean TONS) of unopened vehicles I bought for my army building dreams. Ended up going through a divorce and mostly everything being boxed up and stored away...so one day as I go through things Ebay it goes (40 plus DTC MIB hiss tanks for example).
Definitely assessing what I truly want in my "army" and the rest is to be sold. |

Open the box, take out the vehicle, mail the vehicle to me, put a rock of the same approximate weight in the box and tape it back up.
You get the enjoyment of owning a heavy box with the picture of a GI Joe vehicle on it, and I get the enjoyment of having a toy.

I'll give the advice I always give here.
If your buying toys for the investment it might work out. But I suggest if that's what you want you then go full out and pay to get that stuff graded and sealed so your investment is secured. BUT there is no guarantee you will ever make cash on any item you buy. Its kinda a crap shoot. Much like stock its a matter of trends, tastes and a dash of luck. I'm not saying don't do it. Just know what to expect. The other part of the argument do I open it. For me its nearly always open it. I like to have the experience of putting it together. Setting it up with figures making scenes even taking pictures. I also have like 98% of my collection unboxed...because I as a kid played with them. And lastly...room. Say what you will, but stuff in box after awhile takes up A LOT of space. |
