I'm just placing another order with Marauder Inc. and got to thinking that most of my modern figures original weapons and accessories are sitting in my parts bins, unused. I know having all original weapons and accessories is important to some collectors. Do you keep your figures complete with all of their original weapons and accessories, or swap them out with gear from Marauder Inc, Boss Fight, or other toy lines?

I always keep the original weapons but if I’m not satisfied with what a particular figures weapons are then I will use other weapons. I only do this if it’s a modern era figure. Vintage figures I always use there weapons they came with. Sometimes a ME figure doesn’t have vintage accurate weapons so I will find a castor that has a kit to use like the ME club Metal head(used ragingspoon kit). I usually do this if the figure is a ME update to a vintage ARAH character and they don’t have a accurate weapon . If not than it all depends.

Pretty much what zbs said. I will always keep a figure with whatever accessories it comes with, but I will also give them accessories from other sources if I feel they benefit the figure, if the primary weapon is lame, or if there's an obvious flaw with the accessory set (like if a figure has a holster but no pistol to go with it). I don't really mix vintage figures with modern gear, but will sometimes go the other way around. I mostly use Marauder and secondhand loose Joe gear, but I'm also getting into custom-cast stuff. I've got a bunch of Elite Force weapon pack gear too, but I'm kind of weirdly OCD and tend to only use them with actual Elite Force figures.

Yes, but I don't have a "rule" about it per se, as in "always upgrade" or no, always keep original. If I have a hard to get figure, I certainly keep all the accessories with them, but may add to them. Some figures just need a little more than they came with, especially with MGR making it so easy. Eye pro (goggles) are a common addition for me. The new drop leg holster is getting some action too.

When I was a kid I pretty much kept everyone's accessories to themselves, as the weapon or backpack or animal was as much a part of the character as the uniform, code name or file card. But, Scarlet's crossbow and Storm Shadow's backpacks got moved around to ninja-ish characters like Firefly and Beachhead on occasion.

I used the Ret. 3 pack Storm shadow gear to upgrade my Ret. Red Ninja's.

I like to upgrade my modern figures with their vintage weapons.

When I was a kid, yes, the figures kept the weapons and gear they came with. Now, not so much, but I've upgraded with Marauder gear so I'm not sure who came with what anymore. For some reason, though, I still store Star Wars figures with the accessories they came with.

When i started collecting moderns, i was pretty anal about having all the right accessories for the figures. I did what i could to track down missing stuff, and often paid too much to get them.
Now i don't really care anymore. I've started kitbashing and lightly customizing, and i'll swap and upgrade when i see fit. The figures keep their original accessories, if they fit the role or help define the character of course. I don't count on selling my collection any time soon, and if i end up doing so, i'll take the potential loss of selling the figures "incomplete" and modded. |

I only collect ME figures, and very few of my 'Joe figures are actual stock action figures. Most of my 'Joe team are customs I've made of the characters. Now "blue shirt" Cobras, however, (25th & POC) are pretty much stock.
So, I mix-match some of their gear and weaponry. For example, my custom Recondo (which I need to post pics of soon) has a custom-vintage backpack, but a modern Barrett M82 anti-matériel rifle (can't think of which action figure it came with), Kwinn's belt with revolver and a SW Gen. Lando shoulder holster with a small pistol. For some characters, I like to keep their weapons as close to the vintage line as possible. So, my custom ARAH Duke also has the "M-32 Pulveriser." With other characters, however, I change out the weapons to what's more (IMHO) iconic to the character. So, my custom Stalker comes with an MTF-style "Mike One Six" with the starlight scope and suppressor. Likewise, Rock-n-Roll mans the M134 Gatlin gun. So, it varies from figure to figure. Jason |
