How many of you guys display by a window or close? I have some stuff that is by a window. Not directly but off to the side but still gets some light from it. Also have some figures on card by the window as well. Will the figures start to fade in color eventually? Same with vehicles? I think the color fades when exposed to the uv and windows block a good amount of it if not all. thanks.

When I first got back into action figures, mid-2000s, I had some DC figures on a window sill shelf in out basement. The backs of the ones directly in front of the window faded over some time, and that was a frosted basement window. I think you need special UV-protection glass of some sort. That's what the store recommended for me for my autographed Brett Favre jersey I was getting framed. Otherwise I would think even partial sunlight will fade the plastic over time if their fairly close to direct light. But I'm also no expert.

When I was younger, I had a Kenner Aliens vehicle (the buggy-type thing with the lasso) which I kept pretty much right in front of a window. And yes, the side facing the sun got badly faded. I don't remember how long it was there, but not a real long time, all things taken and considered.
By contrast, I currently have a vehicle on a shelf near a window but off to the side; and, I keep the blinds closed. So although it gets some mostly-indirect light, it's fine so far, even after over a year or so.

I worked for Milgard Windows, and I can tell you that there are levels of UV blocker out there. I wouldn't trust my collection near heat/moisture/natural light. Even some incandescence can be harmful. I use only cool LED panel lighting and I am fortunate enough to have a dry basement that stays at the same temp range year round.
Over time, everything degrades. Remember: you cant take it with you.

My goal is to keep my figures nice, because I didn’t as a kid. I have my collection (what little is displayed) on an adjacent wall of a window but the shelf is above the height that any light would directly hit it. I also have blinds and black out curtains in the room. Its largely my room/man cave and my daughter uses the desk top for school projects so the window is rarely open, the curtains and blinds rare pulled back. So far none of my displayed figures have yellowed. The only issue I have is the softer plastic used for the accessories has led to Tripwire’s mine sweeper to bow a bit.
It’s a very valid question. I try to keep my figures away from the sunlight, Zartan style. Even my non displayed collection in my basement, are kept in bins and I put up something over the basement windows to block out and sunlight. I remember as a kid there would be those local pharmacies or mom and pop shops that would never update their window displays and you’d see an old Rockets sockem Robots box or something that was horribly blanched from the sun. Keep that sunlight away from your toys, especially anything in box or on card.
