The 25th line was successful because it reminded us of the 80s toy line but you cannot keep duplicating items and having success. Resolute. |

I will say i go back and forth. Today i saw them and i was already picking out the ones Im gonna get, lol. I mean they are very hard to pass up becasue #1 its Joe and Number two they are just some damn well sculpted figures. As i've said b4, do you really want a live action ARAH movie? A talking Parrot? Rhyming Roadblock? a whining hissing masked guy? and about 50 different Joes to try to fit into a movie? You think people laugh at Joe fans now, try puttin that thing in theatres. It'll be on video in a week.
For those of us that wanted the cartoo, Resolute is our saving grace and I have a feeling hasbro is banking on satisfying all fans with Resolute series, 80's series, and ROC series both on screen and in the toy ailse. Patience is the key here. Lets allow ROC to do wahts intended to do and that's generate some interest and then see where this thing goes from there. I'm one of the ones that was down on this movie but let me tell ya the toys have really pulled me in so from a marketing standpoint, I'd say Hasbro's done its job. Lets try to take this with an open mind and be involved in building on our universe instead of inhibiting it from growing. We can have it both ways ya know. |

[QUOTE=paraviper;863060]What toy line does Resolute duplicate? I was under the impression that Resolute was a new direction the GI Joe line was heading into. I didn't collect anything joe related from 1990 to the 25th line so I might have missed what Resolute is a duplicate of.

Now compare the amount of product on-shelf for RoC to what used to be on-shelves for 25A. More accurately compare the amount of shelf space involved. Hasbro has already made millions on RoC just by selling the initial shipments to the retailers. Retailers have more confidence in the movie line than they ever had in 25A, or they wouldn't have bought this much of the product to begin with. Film lines are an integral part of the toy business. Retailers love them. LOVE them. They buy more of movie tie-in lines than any other kind of boys' toy except maybe Hot Wheels. It would be idiotic from a business perspective for Hasbro NOT to cater to that demand from the retailers. ESPECIALLY when it's all too easy for them to follow the exact same business model they've done with Star Wars and Transformers and go right back to "classic" product once the movie blows over. Most fans aren't going to abandon the Joe brand forevermore just because of the movie, even if they're not buying movie product. Once again. Retailers, retailers, retailers! They're almost certainly the reason the last few lines of ME were cancelled (because retailers had too much ME stock left over after Christmas and didn't want new shipments resulting in even more pegwarmers), and the reason Hasbro doesn't feel confident running a parallel classic line with the movie product (the retailers wouldn't go for it). Hasbro isn't stupid and Hasbro isn't going to throw away money if they think there's a reasonable chance they can make it. If the retailers would have supported dual lines and Hasbro thought the market would go for it...then we'd be getting parallel lines. As it stands, Hasbro has a heck of a lot more information on how Joe has sold over the last few years than we do, as do the retailers. They made the decision that they thought was best for business. PS: Most of of the figures in the RoC line are new sculpts or reuse parts made specifically for the movie line. Any "cannibalized" 25A figures tend to be vehicle drivers or exclusives. I read through about two pages of this masturbatory ranting and just gave up. Basically, if someone is refusing to buy this line because of the packaging instead of the merits of the toy itself, or lack of nostalgia, then good riddence to thee I say. Less competition for the goods and all that.
BTW, I like the packaging, nostalgia be damned. |

I think folks have every right to dislike the stuff and talk about disliking the stuff.
I even think "I don't like it because it's not ARAH" is mostly a good-enough reason. What I disagree with is the notion that some people have that Hasbro can just do whatever they want, whenever they want, with no repercussions from their customers (the retailers), and in defiance of business models that they've worked from for at least the last 10 years, for a line that may have performed better than expected these last couple years, but was still hardly an A-List brand compared to high-volume lines like Transformers and Star Wars. |

Bottom line they're just toys on a shelf. Either you like them or you don't. The World keeps spinning if you pass em up or not.

Indeed, I think it's good that people like them, troop build them and collect them. I also hope that the movie does well and boosts the sale, the last thing I want to see is less joe.
