I just couldn't believe it! I thought this thing was a Target exclusive! Yet there it is in Toy Kingdom! The RHINO that I wanted and it's priced at more than 100 USD (converted from the Philippine Peso) on retail!
Frak! I wish I had money and wasn't so deep in debt! :-( |

Being the Philippines, I thought it would be cheaper.

If I bought it online somewhere at 52 USD (Target price) and have it shipped for another 35 USD, it would still be cheaper. It costs, if I'm not mistaken, around 5,000 Php (Philippine Pesos).
That's retail price. I shudder at the thought of what the price the specialty shops here would charge for it. The Mobile PIT here costs PHP 8000. Conservatively converted, 160 USD. Again, on retail. Don't want to think of what the specialty store price would be. |

We can only speculate why it's soooo expensive:
....it's supposed to be an exclusive so someone somewhere asked for something more.... ....it's heavy, and package wise, bulky. So shipping costs were significant. One can only groan how much customs may have charged the local supplier ....the store outlet gets it from a local distributor gets it from a regional supplier who gets it from the worldwide distributor who gets it from a factory in China. All those people gotta have salaries somehow. Oh, the DTC stuff only came out in specialty/hobby stores. I would say we're quite lucky in the Philippines that the local distributor of Hasbro toys decided to add (or gamble) on the Joe movie toys and thus we get to see these toys in malls everywhere instead of just specialty stores. The DTC Rhino and ROCC were about US$80 converted in hobby stores here. If I would get one from the US for say, $40? Add shipping costs of....$40? AND add customs/duties of....$20? It still mystifies me how an exclusive got into mainstream here.
The computation's about right, zephon. Some are just worth getting here while some may be cheaper if bought on-line, even with the shipping. Computing the costs, I'd say buying the Pit here is more cost-effective, given the shipping costs. Besides, some malls here offer 3-6 month installment plans at 0% interest for purchases above 3,000 pesos (about $60). Or is that 5,000 (about $100)? For the RHINO, I don't know. I found a way to have something like that shipped for about $40 together with some other stuff for some other guys who will share that $40 with me. Now, does anyone know if I can order from Target.com using a Philippine-issued VISA or Mastercard? I know Hasbrotoyshop.com doesn't. Thank God Bigbadtoystore.com does. All else fails, I'll hunt for a RHINO in Greenhills and probably pay that $80 if I'm crazy enough. |
