Seems to be a movie aimed at the handful of people that were still ordering the 12" Joe package for the convention this year. Zemeckis has a strange propensity to make movies about plastic-looking human beings that don't have much of a target audience.

So has anyone seen this now that it is out? I am drawn to it because of the action figures of course, but no real interest in the "humanity aspect" of a guy getting beat up for cross dressing and then "recovering" with action figures. I just want to see pics of his work which is very very good. Weirdly, this is the sort of crap my wife would normally want to see but she has no interest.

By all accounts it's not very good. Reviews have been pretty savage.

Anyone think they could improve this movie by incorporating elements of 1980's G.I. Joe toys and Sunbow characters?

I saw it opening night.
It is not what you are all thinking. The animation is superb, however it is definitely a human interest story. The events of his life are played out via the figures. He gives each doll a personality of a person in his life. There are a few of his photographs recreated for the film and perhaps in the end scene but it focuses more on how he imagines things and deals with them. Incorporating elements of ARAH would not have improved anything as this person was not into ARAH. It is his story, and his entire diorama yard is based on 12 inch figures.
