I hope they can find a way to get the kiddos interested again, but the sad truth is the entire action figure segment may be a thing of the past. I'm noticing signs that even adult collectors aren't able to keep action figure lines--even the lines targeted directly at them--afloat anymore. The Batman '66 line being cancelled, Star Wars Black Series/TVC figures selling well initially and then ending up heavily discounted, the Imperial Combat Assault Tank disappearing from HTS itself and ending up on HTS's ebay store after a a month or two (which is where they seem to move items that have stopped selling) and apparently being dumped in large qtys on Amazon, peg-warming ML figures everywhere and on and on. There are plenty of signs pointing to the same thing. |

I'd bet probably about the same as any recent low-mid level movie tie-in toyline you see in Target/Walmart. Somewhere are 5-10 3.75 figures, couple 12" figures, some role play toys, maybe a small/mid-size vehicle or two.
As much as I would love to see Joe come back in a big way, I don't see it happening. I have a 7 year old boy who is barely interested in Star Wars, Transformers, WWE figures etc..He plays with them. He loves the properties and will watch or read about them, but action figures just don't do it for kids and I do not know why. It makes me feel old, but when I was his age in 1983, GI Joe was just starting to hit its stride, ROTJ was out, MOTU was going strong and Transformers was on the horizon. |

I was also 7 in 1983. There is just too much sophisticated industry marketing competing for kids' attention, so that attention is distracted a million times before they can finish their Joe collection, which takes a kind of patience kids don't have when their devices give them immediate stimulation.
As for what toys we will get, there will be collector-target upcoming figures with tentative release dates to attract our attention while the kid-driven stuff will fill the shelves and be sifted over until the peg-warmers represent the line to the retailers and fewer orders are made. We won't be able to stand it, waiting for the figures we really want. I'm interested in whether Hasbro follows the Retaliation pattern, where they have other figures in mind as repaints later on for the figures they produce, to maximize their revenue per mold. But I suspect they are trying to prevent the problems they experienced with Retaliation, where they had no idea what the final look of the movie would be when they were trying to produce the first line-up of toys (and had more flexibility to plan ahead). Also, I hope they don't, (but half-suspect they will) reduce chest articulation, just like they did with other lines. |

I would agree there is just too much competition for attention today. Same with TV, where we had a handful of channels now there is almost an infinite of things to watch. When my 7 year old cousin comes over all he wants to do is play with my old action figures. But he never wants any new ones as gifts. The one thing that is odd is we had Atari, and I loved my Atari but I still wanted to play with my GI Joe and Star Wars figures. I wonder are Barbie sales way down as well?

Yes, they are, actually. Been going down ever since 2009, and looking worse every year.
Mattel even recently tried the new body types and other clever changes to right the ship, but it didn't work. That brand has more political problems going on than our war toys do, with far left progressive parents blamed for decreasing that product's sales. I'm glad our household collects only G.I. Joe, and not Barbie. So much easier.

Yes Barbie is down in sales, no it is not because it has political problems. Their product simply is no longer competitive, there are many dolls that are of better or similar quality. The only unique thing Barbie has is being the cheapest of them and Brand power, it's a very tricky position as people already frequently have older barbie releases, why would you buy new ones unless you're a hard core collector. ------------------- Also, please do not throw Far Left into the conversation. That's a generalization. In business we have a rule of thumb, if you assign blame in general or failure in broad terms, you probably failed a logic check and need to do over your work. It's not acceptable, you didn't actually find the root cause as to what really happened. That's also why I don't like it when the movie business blame their fans btw. Fans are almost never why the movie failed. |

I have to wonder, where, when & how will Scarlett come into play? Will they introduce the original 13? What about Shooter?

Fans are almost never why the movie failed. The author of that opinion is Elizabeth Segran. When I said they are blamed, that does not mean that they are blamed by me (or you). Here is a link to the article I took the information from: https://www.fastcompany.com/40503573...-stay-relevant I am not Elizabeth Segran, and cannot guarantee that her conclusions are correct. She probably knows more about Barbie than I do. You probably know more too… I thought that ConanXXXV asked a good question. We could blame Hasbro for the tough times that our favorite brand is going through, but other toy brands are also going through a rough patch as well. But trying to steer this back onto topic, I hope that the Snake Eyes movie does stay true to the G.I. Joe we enjoyed. I understand this is a reboot, but I hope that the new character for Snake Eyes can somehow resemble the character we knew and loved in our childhood. I also hope that a military background can be some part of this new story. Maybe Hasbro can find a way to make movie related toys that are compatible with my current G.I. Joe collection, but I have strong doubts about that right now. It’s more like wishful thinking on my part.

I just hope that whatever we get is in the 3.75''/4'' range. I don't necessarily mind if the style or quality changes a bit from what we've grown accustomed to, as long as they're still fundamentally compatible with our current collections and help give the brand a shot at a new fan base.
Beyond that, yeah, probably waaaaay too many variants of Snake Eyes.

A flavor of SE is an anchor, then two other characters (not necessarily in the movie).
Beyond that, yeah, probably waaaaay too many variants of Snake Eyes. Hopefully they do some sort of attractive prices point, small footprint three packs (like Lanard is doing well with). Deluxe figs is an upward spiral that quickly kills the brand. DG style basic assortment is also a wonderful idea, but not the VvsV style ones with not a drop of gear. Make them either 100% movie or 100% Sunbow (and promote the cartoon on Tubi/Roku). Also Fortnite Sunbow skins. Also Comixology codes for free TPBs.
