I create trends. When people see me buying Joes, they want to buy them also. They automatically think its cool.
All jokes aside. Don't worry about what people think. I feel strange sometimes when I go to the cashier with my handful of "toys" But who cares? That jerk is probaly jealous. I have never had a problem, but if someone said something like that, I would probaly agree with him just to make his day. |

But you really don't. Its a nice notion that we can put those people in there place. The sad truth is that those people don't leave feeling like they were put in there place. More than likely they think you are some weirdo that overreacted and just got stupid with them!

Hehe. Except a)I've never been to the DC Metro area and b)my wife won't come with me to the toy aisle
Seriously though, I just don't get what the guy did that pissed the OP off so much. It's the very same statement I made when I first came across VvV a few years ago before I got back into collecting. So the guy has a differing opinion... so what? How does that make him a jerk? I think the OP is just highly self-concious. |

Your argument is flawed only because you don't know if he was talking to you. He has a right to not like the figures wouldn't you agree? I mean if you knew he was trying to illicit an emotion from you then yeah, he is a real Douche for doing so. But you clearly state that you are not sure who he was talking to. Regardless, I think you were being a wee-bit sensitive. If you are a secure man then who cares what some dweeb has to say?

I had sort of the opposite experience at Target about three weeks ago.
I was reading the backs of two cards and kind of spacing out when a really nice lady asked me if I knew which Superman figure she should get as a gift. I did the whole look around thing to make sure she was talking to me and she said she noticed the diapers in my cart and figured I might know something about toys. That's the Reader's Digest version, but it was sort of cool and I actually felt like I did my good deed for the day. Somehwere out there, little Jimmy can thank me for his awesome non-long haired Superman figure. |

Oh, yeah. I almost forgot: that guy was definitely a douchebag.
You wouldn't go up to someone looking at hot dogs in the grocery store and comment on how gross they are unless you had zero social skills. It's not about being ashamed of one's hobbies or interests, or feeling offended or disrepected. That's all subjective. Objectively, the guy was definitely without any tact. |

Anyway, playing devils advocate...........how, so? Wasn't he just having a conversation with the person he was with in a toy aisle that is barely wide enough for two carts to pass each-other by. What if he had no intention of having anyone hear him. Better yet, haven't you ever been to a movie that was horrible..... and as you are exiting the theater you tell your significant partner or friend how horrible it was? Or do you wait until you get all the way to your car to express yourself in fear of hurting someones feelings who might have liked the film. |

Most people think I'm lost when I head to the toy aisle and start flipping through the joes. Though when RoC came out, I just stood there and stared for a few minutes.
I haven't seen any scalpers around them though and I used to see a scalper on a weeknight toy/shoe run. |

About 3 weeks ago I was in Toy World down here in Australia & I bought a Star Wars Legacy Collection Millennium Falcon, cost me $299.00... So I go to the counter & I get the whole 'raised eyebrow' look from this woman probably in her 40's I think who actually runs the store here & you could tell by the tone in her voice she was being very sarcastic in what she was saying to me & being so called nice, kinda made me laugh alittle but also made me think 'Blow Me'!
So a few days later i'm looking for ROC Joe in the same store, they didn't have any & I asked another woman there if they were getting any, she was real nice, went outta her way, called up people asking if they were going to get the items & when & even gave me the date of when they would be in, how much & what they would be getting which was great, she was real nice, so i'm standing there thinking 'she's cool', you know, she was polite, friendly, anyway... I come back on the day that they were supposed to get the items & the same lady that sold me the Millennium Falcon is there, she comes up & rudely asks if she could help me with anything, I knew straight away 'here we go...', so I asked about the ROC Joe & if they were getting any in today & blah blah blah, she rudely says no, she knows nothing about them, hasn't heard anything about them or them being even made & asked me where I have seen them before, I said "Ummm, well they were released yesturday so..." & she is all like "No, we won't be getting them, there is no call for them so we won't stock them", so I just said "Yea no worries then, guess i'll just blow my cash elsewhere, where I can actually get what I want, for a NORMAL price & the staff are actually NICE & FRIENDLY", I then get the 'Blow Me' look from her, haha... Thing is, I was in the same store a couple days earlier & asked her about them, she told me that they had them on the shelves & must have sold out already the day after they got them in & I told her no because I was in here yesturday looking also & she said well you couldn't have been, she was just so rude, PLUS the Millennium Falcon I paid $299.00 for I later found in Target for HELLO $99.95!!! WHAT THE!!! So I now don't even bother going into Toy World here, I refuse to spend my cash in there & provide them with any sort of business at all, I got my first lot of ROC Joe figures & vehicles in Big W here, the young lad in the toy aisle actually went out back, got the boxes & bought em' all out for me, so I bought them all except for the ones I had before they were even on the shelves, he was polite, helpful, I thought Yup i'll be back again mate. So today I bought 1 Night Raven, 1 Steel Crusher, 1 Cobra Gunship, 7 different figures from KMart outta town, I get to the check out & the young girl looks at me like i'm a pedo trying to lure in children, haha, i'm like 'You stuck up lil' hoe'... thinkin' it in my head. Makes me laugh sometimes what people think when they see me getting Joe or Transformers gear, also makes you alil pissed off too that people are so closed minded & so up themselves as well. I was also in another store recently outta town when I got some ROC Joe gear, only 2 or 3 figures right, my female 'friend' & I get to the counter & the check out chick goes "G I Joe, haha, collect em' do ya", said in a rude mannered tone, so my 'friend' turns & says "Nah, he's gonna go home & play with em' in the f****in' sand pit like he does with me"... SERIOUSLY, the look on this chicks face, was as GOLD as Destro's 25th Ann Head! LOVED IT! I do like your 'friends' response though! |
