Most of my modern era figures are individually bagged or already displayed, but quite a few are still MOC. Most of the MOC are FSS or SDCC figures, and some are quite expensive on eBay.
So, do I open them and display them, or do I leave them stored away MOC? I have no intention to display carded figures. They're nice to look at in photos, but they take up a ton of room and my display area is not designed to show off rows of carded figures. If they stay carded, they'll stay stored away in totes. My display setup is primarily cabinets, with room enough to display all of the figures if I remove them from their cards. But so much value is lost as soon as they're removed from the cardback. Do I enjoy them as figures in displays and complete the teams in the displays, or do I leave them MOC and basically only look at pictures but retain better value if I ever decide to sell them? Here's some of them in pictures the last time they were out of the totes: Last edited by edgecrusher; 08-18-2018 at 03:26 AM.. |

I debate this all the time.
Just do what feels right.

I open. When I have ones worth a lot on Ebay, if I dont open them, I'll usually end up selling them cause i feel I cant enjoy them and I also dont want to devalue them. It's up to you ultimately.

A toy still in the package seems a waste to me. They’re meant to be enjoyed.

Yep, open them rascals. I find that loose figures iiib today's market really don't lose that much value if they remain complete, if that's your chief concern.

I started double buying everything because I wanted loose ones to display in cases. That gets way too expensive as time goes on. Ultimately now I buy everything to open it. If you are afraid to open it, sell it. Or, only keep it Carded if you want to trade it. And once you do open them, you’ll find yourself getting addicted to MTF for supplying your loose figures with more authentic looking modern guns and other cool stuff like customizing. Bottom line, once you start opening them, your outlets in this hobby increase because there’s more to do with them.

Keep them MOC if they are going to be stored anyway.
I'm an opener, personally.

Do what feels right for you. If you can't enjoy them, then sell them. I only keep the classic style cards sealed and display them, but I also have modern versions of the the 82-89 run loose displayed.

They make awesome wallpaper! ;)
I started double-buying as well, but that did get too expensive very quickly. I like the idea of opening and enjoying them. Thanks for the thoughts. |

I like to buy three of each. One to open, one to keep mint on the card and one just in case!
