In about two weeks, maybe three, I'll be moving and will be having to store the bulk of my stuff in a storage pod. I'm worried about what the summer heat will do to my Joes, modern and vintage. The temps have been running in the upper 80's and even into the 90's and I assume it'll get much higher inside the storage building sitting in the yard under the sun.
I've been trying to find a climate controlled alternative, but so far have had no luck short of trying to bribe a friend to let me keep my Joes and Star Wars stuff at his house for week or so. I'm wondering how bad it will be if I have to store them in the storage pod. Will the heat cause discoloring or warping issues, or even cause the stickers to peel off ? I may be alittle too paranoid about it. but I want to try to take every precaution I can with my collection. |

I don't know why no one has responded. I am no expert and there are members here that have more knowledge on this subject.
Having said that, short term I don't think it will be too much of a concern. You may try to store your figures indoors somewhere, and remove any rubber pieces from the collection (rubber tires, etc), but the bulk of it should be fine, depending on the length of time involved. I have had many of my joes in and out of attic spaces months at a time over the years with no ill affects so far. Some were in plastic tubs and some in cardboard boxes. I believe the hot temperatures would have to be fairly extreme. Of course, the best bet is to put it in a climate controlled storage unit. I don't know the cost difference. In my area, there is one on practically every corner. Just my 2 cents based on experience. |

i think you'll be fine if they're packed well, i.e. not under pressure that would cause warping, not having rubber next to plastic, not having plastic bags that can't breathe with the plastic.
i did a move in 2016 and a lot of my collection was in non-climate controlled storage fro June to late October, and the only climate-related problems i can think of are some warped pieces (rubbery plastic) that i pressured or heated back. i had some stuff in storage July 2012-spring 2015; a vintage Transformers Red Alert's white pieces discolored. the vintage rubber tires on it and other vintage Transformers were fine. so my other advice is to keep key and favorite pieces with you; there was some stuff i hand carried with me on my move to and from europe and with me on moves within the states. - Last edited by lsyd; 09-02-2018 at 10:45 PM.. |

Thanks for the advice guys! I appreciate it.
About not having rubber next to plastic, should I take the treads off the old MOBAT/Mauler and store them separate then ? |

I think they should survive. I think sunlight is a greater threat than heat. I had my childhood joes in my Florida garage for many years before I started to see ill effects.
