I saw this interview over on a Star Wars site - do you think GIJoe could become a HasLab property? No more club - maybe Hasbro will get involved themselves...
Interview Snippet - "SWNN: Now that the Sail Barge is a success and the shipping of the toy will commence in 2019, when can we expect another similar products from HasLab revealed? Any hints at which era you will be visiting next and when? Joe Ninivaggi: You can expect awesome ones. Steve Evans: I can tell you exactly what the next one is… No, I can’t (laughs). There will be lots more. HasLab is a real success; working with the fans and the people that really care about these things has blown the barn doors open. So expect lots of cool things from us, and not just us. Expect stuff from other brands like Transformers, Power Rangers. It’s really exciting. It allows this guy to kinda sell directly to the consumer, to get a really good marketing point of view in offering these crazy and weird products we can just design and think about. SWNN: Do you know when we can expect the next one? Joe Ninivaggi: I can’t tell you exactly but we will be announcing something relatively soon." |

That’s been heavily debated and potential projects already voted on. Fingers crossed.

Yeah, that was disappointing.
Even more disappointing is reading business stories about Hasbro's earnings (they did better than expected in the wake of TRU's collapse) and GI Joe isn't listed as one of their brands in any of them.

It's one thing for something to lose popularity and go away, but it's clear, and kind of shitty, that Hasbro is intentionally trying to kill Joe. I would think any IP that is owned by the merchandiser would be of particular value, but I guess not.
I also wonder what, if anything, the scale of Joe has to do with it. Hasbro has been steadily trying to kill 3.75 for years, and Star Wars is now the only brand that has that scale. And they fought against that, one, too, but I think licensing is too expensive not to make every dollar they can and the Force is strong with the Star Wars 3.75 collector.

GI Joe Collectors are not a large market sector. As Hasbro has shared, and as anyone who pays attention to sales and marketing understands: follow the money. Star Wears and Transformers fan bases are international and cross generational, cultural and gender lines. GI Joe is also a "war toy". There is so much that has been written and discussed about our beloved TOY over the years, and yet, "we" as collectors refuse to accept that GI Joe is not a staple toy. It will never be Lego, or even Barbie. It cannot be Star Wars or Transformers. I am in favor of HasLab producing GI Joe product. Please understand that until Hasbro sells that license to a new toy company, they get to decide how to invest in it. Yes, its sad to lose the toy line. I was born in 1963, and I have every intention of opening my collection to my grandchildren when the time comes. I also know that my daughter will want Playmobil as the toy of choice for her children and my son will want Lego for his. I listened when Hasbro explained the process of approving figures for the Club. I listened when Hasbro explained the process of choosing what to make for retail. Please check out The Toys that Made Us on Netflix. There is a Joe episode and others that are eye-opening regarding the toy business. Until then, we can dream of Haslab doing something for the Joe Line...
Yo Joe.

Yo Joe. Quartermaine, we’re just gonna have to except that pitch fork & torch carrying “hardcore” Joe Collectors will NEVER except that G..I. Joe is dying and will never have the success it had in the late ‘60s &’80s.

Well let's wait and see before we brandish swords. Yes, it's disheartening that Joe wasn't mentioned but that doesn't mean they don't have anything in the works. Maybe Hasbro just dropped a couple currently popular brands for the sake of the article. If nothing comes then we can be upset. They gave us the cool, vintage Cobra Missile Base with updated Cobra trio as a con item when no other Joe products were in the works. If Haslab is intended as a premium adult collector line Joe may not be off the table.

D’oh! Forgot this be a thread about HasLab.
But you have to remember that G.I. Joe Collectors are cheapskates.

Why would Hasbro list something that has nothing to do with their earnings? G.I. Joe hasn’t been in mass retail since G.I. Joe Retaliation. And that was FIVE years ago.
This guy gets it. And I’m pretty sure there are others too. Quartermaine, we’re just gonna have to except that pitch fork & torch carrying “hardcore” Joe Collectors will NEVER except that G..I. Joe is dying and will never have the success it had in the late ‘60s &’80s.
