I once got criticized with some not-so-friendly language for giving old Joes to my son to play with. Yes, I opened some unopened figures! I think people forget these are toys. If my sons can love GI Joe as much as I do then maybe there will be a future for this brand after all.
A toy that spends its entire life in its box may be worth a lot to some but it isn't worth anything to me unless I can play with it. |

I dunno, if you can spend thousands of dollars to amass most of the modern era figures but then balk at the last couple because they go for a couple hundred, and your solution is to give away your entire collection, and then spend thousands on an ARAH collection, you might have bigger issues acting on your thought process. Are you truly so dissatisfied with a 99.9% collection that you can't enjoy it because you don't have the other 0.1%?
I agree with those who suggest just getting customs of those figures made if you can't pay the asking price. |

I briefly toyed with the idea of going back to vintage O-rings, but they are literally crumbling away.
I went through 4 Dukes and 3 Serpentors trying to get a good, non-broken sample... gave up.

I hear you man, sounds like you’re thinking about doing something good with your stuff. I’m all for not being addicted to this stuff.

I have a very small collection, too. Relatively speaking. I just want someone to have fun with it.

I say go for it. If giving them away will bring you joy than they did thier job. If the child you give them to gets any joy than you've done something good and Maybe just maybe years from now he will be a collector himself.
Personally I am just waiting on the day my son says he wants them. If I get a chance to watch him and his friends play with them like my friends and I did, every dollar spent was worth it.

Nothing wrong with giving toys to a child. I'd rather see a little one enjoying them than sell them myself. You may even create a new Joe fan. I give toys to a co worker's son all the time. The kid is very appreciative and I'm told takes good care of his figures. Just don't do it because you you can't have them all. I've been there and some times you just need to re examine your collection goals.
Until the Eco Force year at Joe con I was a modern completionist and had almost of the 2007 and beyond non O -ring figures, (I only missed out on Piper, those 4 ultra rare carded figures; Zap, Storm Shadow (Resolute? was it) and think NF Falcon etc. and a couple canceled, unproduced figures) and had most of the exclusive vehicles. I'm just not a fan of that Eco Force era of Joe and was not interested. Once I had that hole in my collection the completionist ran like a loose thread and I passed on anything not pre 1988 ARAH from that point on. Then they cut O.T. at my job and I sold off all of my con sets, many carded Club exclusives figures (still had open ones at least), Joe Con exclusives and passed on FSS 5, 7, and 8. Sure I'll hunt down anything from my childhood but having it ALL is no longer what matters to me. I love my collection for what it is and wanting a dozen or so figures to fill the gaps is what keeps the hobby interesting. If a blue fairy came down and with her wand gave me a complete collection I don't think I'd be as driven to collect. it's not just about having the collection of your childhood dreams, it's about the journey too. I've been collecting since 2007 and still want some figures that I missed or sold off. If it makes you happy to give the toys to a kid then by all means. I gave a 13 year old 3 SideShow Star Wars figures. It's good for the soul. Just make sure that's why you want to give them away. Don't go by Sour Grapes and don't be hasty or you may regret it. I'm guessing you may be having second thoughts to post the thread?
