Never had a Toys R Us growing up... but once I was an adult and moved to Utah, the local TRU had their exclusive 2002 Night Rhino Warthog on clearance for $10 bucks each. I bought the four they had, re-sold them on eBay for $50 each, making about $160 profit, lol... (I had access to free shipping at the time)

I'd say Mission Brazil. The cheezy audio tape. Capt. Claymore and what seemed like 4 random 1986 Joes in mostly odd colors. Maybe you had to have the set at the time.
Night Force is overrated. Good stuff there, but as a whole seems bland. Dino-Hunters was cheezy fun, but became overrated. 1997 stuff was too flawed. Hiss with Rip It was a good one, iirc it was an exclusive.

Too many Night Force vehicles, they had more than Tiger Force! And that was at a time when there were too many new vehicles.
(I'd have cut the Triple T and Sharc repaints at least, as both seem meaningless without their original operators) In terms of figures, the idea of taking 6 joes from the previous year was conceptual lazy, though the choices weren't bad per se. As for better colors than their original versions? Light Foot, Crazylegs, Psyche Out and Shockwave, sure. Outback, Sneak Peek, Spearhead and Charbroil are debatable Muskrat, Tunnel Rat, Repeater and Falcon's originals were better. Brazil seemed so unique, remains so...a 5 pack with a debut kitbash character and an audio tape. Of course, some of the figures look too colorful, that also makes it memorable and sort of ahead of its time (that is, obnoxious repaints!). I won't tackle the 2000's stuff, there's too much of it. All the 6 packs have good and bad points, as do the vehicles. |

I had to really think this one thru.
TRU gave us a TON of great exclusives. For me was a set...or sets. Silent Strike and Crimson Strike I mean 1st the redesigned Skystriker is easily one of the best modern molds ever. And both the Scythe and Black / Silver / Red Skystriker are great repaints. And better yet...we got a HISS with each set. A HISS with each one. With redesigned cannons and new colors. Add in the figures. A great repaint of Ace. A homage to Gary "Goggles" Head in Sightline. A HISS Driver and Gunner. Easily the coolest repaint of an AVAC using the CG body. An Alley Viper...ok odd color choices but that pretty much is the MO of Alley Vipers. And we round out the entire sets with a kick ass version of both Steeler and Grunt. Now my favorite theme? Night Force...some of the vehicle paints are odd...(bright orange?) but a cool concept. |

The old Cobra Polar set from the 90's, that had the white Firefly, the Night Creeper and the Snow Serpent. I even bought the Collector's Club Ice Viper because of the nostalgia...

Have to agree on that, before the 25th Anniversary figures came out. TRU Exclusive 3-pack of Alpine, Shock Trooper, and Rock Viper afterwards.

The Vietnam 3 man LRRP squad comic pack. Wish we had scored the other three!
EDIT: Hmmm...maybe it wasn’t “exclusive” to TRU..? I just remember seeing it and passing (regretably, although I’ve more than made up for it, lol).

There was some good stuff in the 97/98 years. I really like the 97 Cobra Commander, the blue & gold take on the armor sculpt looked really good (pity they didn't have his gear at the time). And regular (non-Pimp) Destro looked pretty good as well. At least they tried to give the character a different look (and that sculpt tried to fuse his first two looks, if only the collar hadn't been so puffed out).
1998 got even better, the "Infantry" set with non-Viper but in viper uniform versions of the Officer and Trooper was good, pity that was never updated in ME (though the Club probably would've grabbed it if they had remembered it, just as well...). +-MWG-+ |

Qft my thoughts exactly. not that it boded well for the line to be regulated to a Toys R Us exclusive. You have to give Toys R Us credit for many times supporting GI Joe over the years when other retailers wouldn't touch it anymore. Toys R Us for the most part was always very friendly to GI Joe as a brand and we should all be thankful because there were many times that had it not been for Toys R Us we wouldn't have had any product to buy.

Were the Valor vs Venom multi-packs of the old sculpts unique to TRU? If so, I change my answer to the Cobra Ninja Strike set, just for that camo version of 1988 Storm Shadow.
