I would say that all my friends and immediate family are on board with it. Also, I'm single so there's obviously no tension with the Mrs.!
My Dad has bought me a couple Transformers here and there and my friends think it's cool because they, in a casual sense, like G.I.Joe and Transformers.
I haven't figured out my Mom yet. She's buys me nerdy stuff like the "Transformers Field Guide", buys me funny gifts, and even sent me an issue of "The Intelligent Collector" a few weeks ago. But, when I showed her the Sky Striker that I had just finished "stickering"a while back, she gave me a look like I was a weirdo, lol! So...I dunno.
But, with all that said - I don't go overboard with it. My toy stuff isn't all over my apartment; I keep it in my computer room. Even then it doesn't take up the whole room. When too much stuff gets everywhere, I pack a bunch up and put it in the attic.
Also, I don't overdo the "nerd-factor". I have ONE Transformers T-shirt, and a HissTank.com T-shirt, but that's pretty subtle. I don't do cosplay, role-play, or any of that hardcore nerd stuff, so I don't freak anyone out, lol.

My girlfriend collects LEGO Minifigures and gets all giddy when she sees Ewok toys, so I don't really foresee any problems stemming from me and G.I. Joes.

I have been married for almost 18 years. Every now and then she will make a comment like, "Oh look, something else for you to collect!", but all in all she is cool with it.

My wife tolerates it. She's not exactly excited about it, but she doesn't bash me about it. In our new house, she relegated me to the maintenance closet, and it's actually working out ok. I'll show pics once I'm totally finished with it. My oldest son will say something like, "Dad, are you buying some stupid GI Joes again?", but he's not saying it maliciously. It's funny, because I have plastic display cases that I keep my figures in, and one of the neighbor kids where we used to live asked if he could see my "museum"!

Ah, this old thread again. Well, I guess I can update my post from the first page.
My wife still doesn't love it, and honestly, she was probably right when she said it was getting a BIT out of control. I'm slimming down the collection quite a bit, refocusing on the parts that really matter to me and steadily selling off or trading the parts that don't. And it's been going very well.
Right now, I'm concentrating on my vintage RAH and SW stuff. I got rid of all the Sideshow SW figures and quite a few of the GI Joe ones too. I've kept most of them, but sold off a lot of the extra trooper types (Desert, the black-dressed Sniper, the ninjas - I only have the Black Dragon Ninja exclusive left, which I'll sell eventually too). I passed on the second Snake Eyes (since I already had the first) and even the Crimson Guard, initially (I got it in a trade, later on).
Ditto Hot Toys. I might keep my Predator exclusive and T-800, but I could probably be persuaded to sell those too, for the right price. I still have a Thriller MJ, Wolf exclusive and original Pred if anyone's interested.
I've decided to sell a lot of the recent convention stuff, too. I've decided I don't need a version of every single RAH figure out there in the new format. Especially the subteams like Python Patrol and maybe even Night Force (we'll see after I get the con set in hand).
I put a lot of money into the 25th line, so I'm not getting rid of it (I'd probably get peanuts for most of it at this point), but I have been slimming it down a bit too, mainly by selling the stuff that doesn't quite fit (bad frankenjoes, repaints that were not in the original line, etc.).
So yeah, long story short, she was right. To a point.
She was also quite supportive of me writing a blog about it, which I have been doing. Been a bit hit or miss in terms of getting time to do it lately, but I still post reviews and what not. She loves that it's giving me a creative outlet.
Please check out http://hmcsgreatadventure.com/ - it's a mix of sci-fi, humour and the friggin' Royal Canadian Navy, eh!
Also looking to sell/trade Joes... Need Lego Futuron Monorail, Land Adventure, etc... http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...-t-thread.html

What do they think? Not a damned thing. My girlfriend helps me out with my customs. Shit, now that I think about it she is probably better at my own GD hobby than I am.

I don't have a collection per-se, just a fair few figures and vehicles and work-in-process customs (both figures and dioramas).
I'm not collecting for any sort of monetary value, nor for display, just for me, and ideally for me to be able to play with (when I can find a spare hour or so with no-one around: Making dioramas, customs or RC conversions is now my way of playing which is also reasonably socially acceptable when my wife/other people are around).
My wife tolerates my plastic habit. The usual comment when some smallish package arrives goes along the lines of "not another man". She realises that it's a relatively harmless pursuit, and that I certainly could do more expensive/dangerous things with my time and money, and equally that small plastic men are far cheaper than shoes, handbags, cosmetics and perfume ;)
She's also actually quite interested in and wants to help with dio construction when I actually get round to it, so perhaps I ought to just crack on with the dios (I blame too much work plus a young daughter for the continued plastic acquisition but lack of dio construction progression!)
I wonder if some of it also comes down to a lack of tidiness - my construction area is an organised mess, not helped by the multiple partly finished items, which my wife, understandably, doesn't like very much as it's part of my/our home office; once we buy a bigger house I think we both hope that I can have a room that can be shut off from the rest of the house so she won't see the work-in-progress/mess and I won't have to tidy up when we have visitors!
Regarding the rest of the family - my parents probably wouldn't be surprised, nor would they be bothered, but no-one actually knows other than my wife (and it took long enough to tell her [when she was my girlfriend back before the advent of the 25th Anniversary figures]). I can't see myself telling my colleagues/friends.
