Looking for input. I have spent the past few days going through my vintage ARAH figure collection and realize I am pretty good with where I am at. I am pretty much tapped out. I am going to get back into modern era collecting on a limited scale. I had a huge collection of ME figures from the 25th anniversary line through the 50th anniversary line that I got rid of when I went full bore into ARAH vintage figs. I am just looking for the best version of the figure during the modern era run. Many of you have indicated that the POC/30th/Resolute are the best figures of the whole line. My main focus will be on those lines but am also looking at Retaliation through the 50th anniversary figures as well. I know there are a few figs that are going to cost me a decent chunk of change. Here are the figures I am looking to buy again. I would like to hear others input on which figure from release they think is best (if applicable).
Beachhead Duke Recondo Flint Snake Eyes Crazy Legs (30th is the only modern era) Low Light General Hawk Lifeline (30th is the only modern era) Airtight (30th is the only modern era) Law and Order (30th is the only modern era) Tunnel Rat Sci Fi (30th is the only modern era) Sky Dive Shipwreck Snow Job Alpine Heavy Duty Outback Cobra Alley Viper Firefly Destro Cobra Commander Cobra Viper Bat Rock Viper Cobra Trooper Techno Viper Iron Grenadier Eel Snow Serpent SAW Viper Jungle Viper Data Viper Heat Viper |

I'm by no means the best source, as I only have a passing knowledge of the modern lines myself.
I will say that the newer 30th/50th (?) Viper is the best, and the same can be said for troopers and officers- I'd avoid 25th in both cases (though I unfortunately didn't know any better when I bought 6 troopers) For the Iron Grenadier, the only modern I like is this one: https://www.yojoe.com/action/11/irongrenadier8.shtml the 25th builds look OK, but the articulation is negated by the construction. I have no experience with the later versions, but they don't look very cool to me. Jungle Viper is a dope figure, I was gifted one while it was still on shelves. The latest Heat viper is pretty sweet, and still cheap because it's packed with a very blah blowtorch. I didn't see Night Viper on your list, but the traditional green RET version is hands down the best ME figure I have. |

Beachhead-50th edition from Eagles Nest 3-pack (though I’m still partial to the 25th comic packs head)
Duke- I think Duke’s retail releases all suck as far as definitive, but I’d go with Resolute or Renegades if you don’t want to build one yourself. Recondo- pretty much Attack on Cobra Island is your only choice for ARAH accuracy Flint- SDCC exclusive Danger at the Docks Snake Eyes- Retaliation Ultimate for min ninja, PoC/50th for Commando Crazy Legs (30th is the only modern era)- that’s the one Low Light- PoC/50th is the only choice, and a good one General Hawk- I’m partial to the 25th version based on the cartoon Lifeline (30th is the only modern era)- copy Airtight (30th is the only modern era)- copy Law and Order (30th is the only modern era)- copy Tunnel Rat- this depends on preference, but for cartoon accuracy, the 25th comic pack is the way to go; for better build, Renegades, or even the Club “Final 12” Tiger Force version Sci Fi (30th is the only modern era)-copy Sky Dive- I think the JoeCon is about it Shipwreck- opinions will vary, but I order the original 25th single card. Some like the updated 5-pack version, but I hate that torso. The 50th is nice but features a less traditional design Snow Job- I still stick with the 25th singles card because he’s all white, but the PoC/50th is a nice build with better accessories Alpine- same deal here. 25th dvd pack/50th 3 pack for classic deco but the Clubs FSS version uses more modern parts Heavy Duty-50th two pack no doubt Outback- I like the Zombie Initiative version with a 25th head swap best Cobra Alley Viper- defense of cobra island pack Firefly- 50th 3 pack Destro- 50th 3 pack Eagles Nest Cobra Commander- Retaliation Ultimatel Cobra Viper- PoC/ 50th Sinister allies 2 pack Bat- classic 25th Rock Viper- PoC/ 50th 3 pack Cobra Trooper- PoC Techno Viper- 30th Iron Grenadier-50th two pack Sinister Allies Eel- 25th probably Snow Serpent- 25th SAW Viper- JoeCon Nocturnal Fire Jungle Viper- only the one, I think Data Viper- same Heat Viper- 50th 2 pack

I agree with Ax.
There is, however, a PoC Skydive too, not just the Club/Con one even tho that's the better one. Also, for the SAW Viper I think the 50th one is better than the Nocturnal Fire one |

Thanks for the feedback so far! I was going to just collect from the POC onwards and was looking more for quality of the figure rather than whether or not it was representative of the ARAH version. As long as I have a good version of the figure I will be happy. Not really looking to get into the Con Exclusives or the Club releases just yet as those are going to get really expensive - (I tried tracking down a Footloose a few years ago and he was going for $100+ MOC).

So is "quality" for you measured by physical material or design or poseability or what? None of the stuff spontaneously falls apart on the shelf so what is your goal/concern?

Zap, I agree with what you’re saying, but the “quality” argument about 50th depends on climate. Here in the Midwest they’re fine, but in warmer climates like the west coast they become gummy and bendy from the heat.

Define "quality" if you want the feedback to be most relevant. Some people shit on the 50th line because they say the quality is low (they complain about plastic rigidty or paint apps) but the articulation and detail is better than the 25th, RoC, and Resolute stuff (plus I don't actually see anything wrong with the plastic or paint apps on most of the 50th figures). Similarly, people give way too much credit to PoC because they like the design aesthetic but the articulation and range of motion suffers on a lot of those figures (Firefly, Hawk, Snowjob, Whiteout, jungle Duke, and Dusty come to mind with serious shortcomings). Retaliation and 30th figures saw a lot of improvement to articulation over what was seen in PoC (not just added articulation but also better camouflaging of wrist joints and such). Those Retaliation and 30th improvements were used in a lot of 50th figures.
