Most of my troopers are wielding SCAR rifles that someone was kind enough to sell me. I prefer the bigger rifles in general.
However, I do like the idea of having some with that cartoon laser, or something like it.

They (the SCARs) do look good, but they are harshing my 80s vibe too much, lol.
I hope someone manages to talk Marauders into making the actual Cobra laser gun. It wasn’t a WWII smg, though it has sometimes been retconned that way. |

Have you thought about these? Should be easy to find and they look similar.

They actually made this:
https://www.yojoe.com/images/resize/...int13acc-3.jpg I've never seen them sold separately anywhere though. Versions seem to come with Tomax and Xamot, Cobra paratroopers, and Flint. If someone were selling a lot of these, I'd be thrilled.

I wonder if it's the overall fumbling of the Star Wars franchise by Diznee that is causing G.I. Joe to attract interest again. Same thing happened in the 1980s. When Star Wars waned after ROTJ, G.I. Joe filled the gap for kids. It's clear OT Star Wars is still red hot, but the new movies and their merchandise are bombing with fans and collectors. It's boring people and they're looking to other franchises for their fix.

For me it’s the opposite — TFA got me back into figures and I’ve gone from there. But maybe there should be a different thread for this q, so we don’t hijack?

I have 4 of them in my fodder box, if you want them. I believe they're from the Flint figure, and they're not 100% black (more gunmetal i think), but close. |

I'm considering a much bigger (but maybe not harder) effort to improve the troopers.
I think they would look a lot better with their necks painted black. I think it's clearly a missing paint app (much like some Baronesses seem to have a black, instead of flesh, neck). It shouldn't be super hard. What do people think? Is it worth it?

To me the original Cobra look was one of a slightly awkward, amateurish paramilitary look, and the way they wore kerchiefs over their faces (slightly like old time bank robbers, as well as 70s terrorists) was a part of that.
IMO painting the neck means changing the appearance of the soldiers from kerchief to balaclava, which like your use of SCARs suggests an increasingly modern, well equipped, professionalized force, rather than the OG cobra theme. As long as the troops are presented as latter day refinements of the originals, it makes good sense to me, and should look good too. And luckily acrylic paint is super cheap, too! |

But as seen in your avatar, you lose the chin definition in most lighting. Try it on one or two, and see what works for you. Mine are all painted to match the mask colors. Heck, try a flesh color neck to match the cartoon trooper, if you are also trying to match the cartoon gun. |
