...what is it?
It is an interesting looking weapon that has no "magazine". It does seem to have either a "bottle" for ammunition or a gyro-stabilizer attached to the stock. Whichever it is, it appears to also provide some balance to the weapon. It may also (possibly) have two barrels - one traditionally sized and another larger one underneath. I admit that the sculpt lacks enough detail to determine if it does or not. So, anyone have any theories? Cobra Trooper (v18) G.I. Joe Action Figure - YoJoe Archive |

I thought I heard it was a grenade launcher.

I heard that too. It makes sense when you look at it.

This review of Tombstone on JBL lists it as a "Seburo" light machine gun. I don't know the movie it's supposed to originate from though, but that's the only place i've seen that seem to know what it is.

I had seen that as a theory (I saw no official source make this claim) - but I discarded it as unfeasible because any grenades would have to rotate in the stock to line up with the barrel and then pass through the receiver.

Unless it launches from the bottom... like the trooper would need to raise it in the air to launch. ?? I dunno.

I break it down by the features I think I can identify—unknown type of carbine rifle, with small magazine just inches forward of the pistol grip trigger area… holographic sight mounted on top rail… larger tube underneath rifle barrel appears to be a small grenade launcher with a slide-action that fires something small like a 20 mm detonating round… a canister containing a pyrophoric propellant extends from the stock/grip so as not to add unnecessary weight to throw off the accuracy of the rifle fire, and sprays out from a narrow tube centered under the grenade launcher, spontaneously igniting in the air as a limited flamethrower/incendiary weapon. At least, that’s what I pretend…

"Seburo" appears to be a brand used in both Ghost in the Shell and Appleseed; however, Tombstone's rifle doesn't really bear any resemblance to any guns I've seen from those series. I think Hasbro just decided to pull a 1980s and make something that looked vaguely plausible, with elements of recognizable weapons, even if the result is not necessarily "realistic" upon scrutiny.

“Seburo” is a brand of firearm that appears in Shirow comics like “Ghost in the Shell” and “Appleseed.” I Googled but couldn’t find a Seburo gun that bore more than a vague resemblance. I suspect the idea of an integrated flamethrower is on the right track. Even if it were a cylinderical magazine like the PP19, it is taking the most circuitous route to the chamber.
The gun looks extremely implausible for the basic reason that there is no way to fire it from the prone position. |

Yeah I know what that thing is. Hasbro souped up a Water gun or some sort of liquid launcher and gave it to the wave 1 Retaliation Cobra trooper thinking it looked futuristic.
That guns fires liquids. The bottom part is similar to what you would see on a Super soaker Water gun. You unscrew it, fill it up with liquid, put the tube pipe back in and you use a mechanical or muscle power to suck the liquid up and shoot it at people. Not only supersoakers, paint sprayers, pesticide sprayers, squirt bottles have similar designs. Paint ball guns even have a similar concept, except with smaller paint balls instead of liquid. |
