Just got back into collecting, and I grabbed a couple used figures that have loose legs. Looked online and I see several different methods of fixing this: superglue on the joints, nail polish, or stuffing something like tissue or paper into the socket. Is there a recommended solution, or are they all basically the same? Thanks!

Depends on which joint. If it's the hips, then replace the elastic band with a tighter one will usually do the trick. For other joints that you can separate (like the knees), then any of the things you mentioned would work, unless the peg is actually broken internally. Then you'd have to use methods like stuffing something in.

I see some people on other forums recommending floor polish for the ball joints

That's a common solution for joints on Transformers. Specifically, Future floor polish, which I think was bought by Pledge. Something like this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Superglue plus paper is a real hum dinger. The glue is brittle but strong and the paper is abrasive but soft. The two together is awesome, but very strong.

I've always used tiny pieces of paper. If its still a little loose than thicken it up a bit (but still doesn't take much). The paper method works great, its easy, and its nothing permanent so you don't have to worry about any potential damage. works with both old O-ring and modern.
I highly recommend trying it. It takes a few practices though until you figure out the right amount and get your groove.

I just tried toilet paper with two figures, and I'm very satisfied with the results. 100% better

Another simple solution (if toilet paper does not work or you do not want those floor polish stains on your Joes) is to spread the legs of your Joes and then squeeze some regular Elmer's school glue into the ball joint. Leave it there for about a full day and then use a pin/needle to remove the dry glue residue. It might take multiple tries for some but it does work (at least for mines).
