This is a good thing. I really wish Hasbro would have started doing a Kickstarter-esque approach to toys earlier. I'm glad they're testing the waters with the Star Wars crowd to hoping show that it can be profitable and extend that over to GI Joe.
You guys are already talking Flagg and TD? Heck, I'd be happy with something like the Whale and then see them build their way up from there. |

No, no - I wouldn't expect anyone to pay $500 for a Whale. What I'm saying is for Hasbro to pick a smaller sized vehicle than say the Flagg or Terror Drome with a more palatable price tag.

That sail barge is four feet long, and as soon as I saw that, the first thing I thought was, this is the only chance we get a Flagg, and it's actually conceivable. Honestly, I would never drop $500 on any toy, but for those of you who love the Flagg, I hope it happens.

Well if they are calling it HasLab then it looks like they really thought this through. Fans have been crying for a Jabba Barge for years. The website looks nice also. They may have finally noticed the Kickstarter phenomena and want to jump in the fray.

Thank you for posting and great idea Hasbro? Whale at $100 to $150, I will be in for two. A really good updated Terror Drome $400 to $500, I am in. A modern USS Flagg I will be in, how much? I will be in pretty high on that. I think the best is will be for us to contact Haslab and request for a Whale first and see if we can get that done. Then everything follows from there. But I am super excited about these News!

There was a fan petition for a barge. I wonder how many signed it? I know I did. If at least 5000 want this I think they’ll drop the money on it.

The Pit was sold at retail with retail production numbers and retail margins. It was produced when China was still "affordable" for toy production ( some of the information I've gotten from my Transformers hangouts pegs current China minimum wage at $2.20, compared to $0.90 for Vietnam, itself still higher than what China was costing in the 90s to early 2000s. That's why much of Transformers is now produced THERE and why we've seen cost increases and/or product compromises) Whatever tools Hasbro may have used 10+ years ago is pretty meaningless. They stated before that a lot of the old vintage tooling were written off years ago and destroyed rather than spend the money for catalog and storage or moving to new production facilities. By and large, we, as a community, need to expand how we view GI Joe and the industry, because just because Hasbro was able to do things 10 years ago, doesn't make it feasible to do now. You guys need only look at Transformers for proof. If we REALLY want large scale, complex, vehicles like the WHALE or classic play sets? We need to grasp with the idea that this will NOT be mass retail, it WILL cost more, and maybe even uncomfortably so.

I would rather Hasbrolab crowdfund the creation of a Cobra Sky-Crane (Sikorsky CH-54 Tarhe twin-engine heavy-lift helicopter with detachable troop pod module). This item would be more affordable than the Star Wars barge they are selling now.
