Hasbro is in no position to take a gamble right now with what’s happening with Toys R Us. This was a novel idea but like so much of typical Hasbro nonsense, not carefully thought out. Instead of starting off so big, they should have offered several smaller projects first.

Hasbro is in a lot of trouble. One of their most important (and usury priced) properties, SW, has self immolated and it bankrupted one of their primary channels. Many primary cash paying fans have turned their nose on the brand as well, maybe never to return? Wotc is caught in a MTG paedo scandal and sales have dropped sharply over the past few years. Board games? Is that still a thing? Transformers may or may not still be popular. And 3D printing is about 2 years away of buggy whipping the whole company.
Maybe the Marvel license will save the day? But that well may have already dried up, just like the Transformers. In short, buy some just out of the money puts on Hasbro, and sell some deep in the money calls. Might as well do it on margin too :p Last edited by Bubbavader; 03-12-2018 at 04:21 AM.. |

Yep, several of the judges are registered sex offenders (paedo) and Wotc had turned a blind eye and has now passed the buck to the stores on doing anything about it. Real shady stuff.

That said, I think there's a pretty good chance this squeaks over the finish line in the last few days. |

I think the idea is sound, I think the concept is sound and even the first offering makes total sense.
What is not sound is asking for 5000 backers, for a comparison of the nearly 400,000 projects on kickstarter, only around 800 had over 5000 backers. (give or take) What was the minimum for Castle Grayskull?

But the bottom line is that 5000 people across the US (and Canada) willing to drop $500 on a Star Wars collectible (much less a highly requested one) should not be hard to find if the collector market really is as robust as collectors tend to profess. They need to gig the project with stretch goals and such, gaining and keeping momentum and velocity is key for such crowdfunded projects.
