I haven't collected Joes since about 1987. I'm a little overwhelmed about where to begin with all the different lines, convention/club exclusives, etc.
I think my goals now are to finish my collection from 1982 to about 1987. As for the modern line, I like the look of the 25th Anniversary figures on up. Not much of a fan of the early 2000 runs. Im curious as to how you guys focus your collections, any tips and tricks you got to make your money stretch, etc.. Looking forward to getting to know a lot fo you guys! Geoff |

Welcome! Pretty much collect what you want bro. Have fun with it and try not to get to stressed, I mean they’re toys. As for my collection I only do modern edition. I combine them with customs of my own as well as vintage vehicles, that is if a modern version was not made.
A lot of good guys on here who will give ya good deals and help you out to fill in the holes in the collection. Make sure to check feedbacks and bst’s. Again welcome to the Tank! |

Good to have somebody jumping into collecting again! Welcome!
I don't mess around much with the vintage Joes anymore, but they don't seem too hard to affordably collect, IF you're willing to get them loose, and possibly without all accessories. Complete in package I assume gets real pricey though. As far as modern era goes, a lot of the regular 25th/movie figures are still pretty affordable. Many of the exclusives and club figures are fairly expensive though. Good luck! |

Run while you can!!! I’m half way joking. I’m addicted to this plastic crack. I’m a partial modern era completist and have got into troop building witch both can be expensive. I thought I would just collect 25/50th figure ARAH 1982-1987 but I haven’t stopped there. I have subbed in on every FSS and joecon set in ME form. It is fun and welcome to the tank.

Welcome to the Tank!!! I blame my stepson who got me a 25th Rattler for X-mas 2008. I was out of Joe's as a kid by 1987, but now I'm back ×1000!!! After being a heavy Collector of the modern era stuff, 2007-today, I have tried to narrow my collection to the "Ultimate" version of each ARAH figure. "Ultimate" to me means figure parts used from the POC line to present (2010-now). POC, 30th, Ren, Ret., and 50th figures have better parts than the 25th and ROC lines in general. Thus my collection is a combo of Retail from those later lines, FSS, SDCC, and Joecon figs that have the "better" parts. I have also been able to customize a lot of figures that fit this criteria, the majority of them without painting across knee, elbow, and torso joints. That has been a lot of fun to do that.
I also army build using this newer parts principle too. I have limited my specialty vipers to teams of 6. I have gone way overboard with POC/30th/50th vipers and Cobra troopers though. I'm a big IG fan so I have tons of 25th IG's. Bottom line is collect what you like!!! I don't like team repaints (tiger Force, night Force, etc) so I sold a lot of those off. I'm pretty happy with my collection and look forward to adding the figs in the future.

Welcome!!! Like the comments above, just collect what you enjoy. As long as you are not like me, ( I like Joes a lot, so it is a little expensive for me), you will be alright. I do recommend not to try to acquire everything you want rush. Take your time, savor each acquisition and pace your purchases. I haven been collecting Joes since 1984 and I remember fondly each Joe addition. Like when my cousin gave me Copperhead, when I purchase the Stinger at Zayre, when I bought a 3 pack of Duke, Snowjob, and Blowtorch in a mailer brown box at Playworld, or when I picked Rowdy Piper from the Club Archive sale.

I just got back into it, too, after a 20 year break. (One-sixth took over in the interim.) I've found that vintage joes aren't in scale with the new ones anymore; but the new ones are more in scale with vintage weapons, if that makes sense. But some of the new ones are in scale with some of the vintage ones, like the 2008 DVD battle back figures are okay next to vintage figures. No one else probably considers toys from 2008 to be new, but they are still new to me.
Now I have decided to rebuild the classic joes with MTF figures because then they'll mostly be the same scale. Last edited by Bullneck; 01-24-2018 at 11:01 PM.. |

I've gone back to focusing on the early 80's stuff myself. Whenever I'm bored I'll do a search for GI Joe on ebay for the auctions ending soonest. I've picked up a ton of stuff for insanely cheap prices that way.

As someone who just got back into Joes about 2 years ago, being away since the late 80s early 90s, I recommend you pace yourself. I came at this with an open wallet, bought multiples of things that are sitting new in packages in boxes. 2 years later, I feel like focusing.
I would suggest you buy a few vintage and a few of the modern era Joes, and see which really grab you. Also, go ahead and buy a Marauder Task Force figure, and see if that floats your boat. You might find you want to build your own, as opposed to buying a Hasbro Joe. I found I can't go back to vintage after having the additional articulation and sculpts of the modern era figs. I also bought many army building figs, but haven't done anything with them. So, pace yourself, whether it is X figures a week, or X dollars a week. |
