I don't mind a break from Joe for a while, I still have a lot of old figures and vehicles to buy, and I've always got my hands full with Star Wars, Marvel / DC and AVP things, which are all doing relatively well now, with collectibles on the horizon.
But I have to say, this SDCC Cobra Missile Command set has me more excited than anything Joe-related that has come out in years, so even if I got one great item every July I'd be happy. |

I thought Resolute was the best modernization of the franchise but they soon abandoned that idea for lesser ones. I still think ARAH can't be topped. They need to embrace that fact. Look at all the comic-based films. The best ones always return to the classic characters and their origins.
1. It only aired on Hasbros channel that nobody had. 2. The toys came out about a year too late. I feel GI Joe hasn't had a fair shot for kids to notice for a long time now. The first movie glutted the stores with toys and it has been a series of mistimings ever since.

I'm going to offer a contrary position, one that runs against the doom and gloom perspective that seems to be pervading our hobby (and believe me, I get it). I hope I don't get tarred and feathered for it.
Here it is: We are living in the most exciting and dynamic time to be a G.I. Joe fan right now. Granted, the toy angle of the hobby is dead. Since that is a huge aspect of the hobby, it is completely understandable that people are upset. I am. However, as some have pointed out, it is a great time to fill in holes that your collection may have and take advantage of some of the stuff that companies like Boss Fight, Eagle Force, Zombie Labs, Marauder Task Force, and Articulated Icons are releasing. I just found out last night that my Articulated Icons Storm Shadow and Snake-Eyes may be hours away from shipping, and I haven't been this excited about a G.I. Joe acquisition since the last round of two-packs hit Toys R Us. Setting toys aside for the moment, Hasbro has paved the way for incredible storytelling via Kindle Worlds. There has never been an era during which we've seen such a furious wave of compelling stories about our favorite characters. The rich characterization that made this franchise is finally getting a chance to take place in novel form, and it is being brought to us by authors like Jim Beard, Justin Bell, Troy Osgood, Wes Ferguson, and Don Maue (Bill Nedrow, too), plus many others. Different corners of the universe are getting explored beyond Snake-Eyes, Duke, and Storm Shadow, and there are enough out there that your sensibilities as they relate to the G.I. Joe universe. Yeah, I'm disappointed that we aren't getting new figures soon, but I've got two of Justin Bell's novellas on deck that I'm pretty sure will fuel my G.I. Joe imagination for some time to come. I'm getting that same thrill I used to get whenever Mr. Hama's latest issue ended up in my mailbox, except now I get hundreds of pages of characterization instead of a few panels. This is the best time to be a fan of G.I. Joe because we are getting great stories that will bring us years of enjoyment. Let those aforementioned companies fulfill your plastic crack need and relish what Hasbro is giving us: some of the best G.I. Joe stories ever written. |

For kids I think best way to them involved in GI Joe & even Mask is to have a new cartoon available on Netflex and youtube. If a kid 8-12 watches anything these days it's these. And although not every kid may have these it is probably the best route. I would rather they put their energy and resources into a high end cartoon series of PG-13 like rating than a live action movie. If it does well do movies after that.
