Naw, just had a "trying to be serious" discussion post and first post by him was a joke. Sorry. Just stuck out that had done it again. No big deal, but save the joking for joking threads or when a serious one becomes a joke thread.
If don't mean the post as a joke or whatever, then explain it as that. I can be serious....TRUST ME. I am sorry if I offended anyone. On that note. I really think the Resolute direction was the best idea yet. People like a more grown up and get killed G.I. Joe. look at video games. They usually cater to the 25 to 35 yr old and have grown up with the game players. Last edited by nerdsgetchicks; 06-27-2009 at 02:31 PM.. |

I agree with a lot of what Troynos said, although having reporters nosing around could be intersting. I'm thinking of Jack McGee from the old Hulk TV show. Someone who is serious and is really trying to learn about a top secret unit "because the public has a right to know". AS to the rest, yeah, no lasers or flamethrowers. Mini tanks and AWE Strikers vs. HISS tanks. And BTW, I'm not really a naysayer, but I agree that some things just need to change to keep the franchise alive and relevant in today's world.
Yeah, there'd be a movie. The basic plot of RoC is good: terrorist group gets some high tech and uses it to threaten the world. Depending on how sci-fi you want to go, nano-mites work as a "world threatening" device very well. So I'd go with the basic plot of RoC, just get rid of the A-Suits and the Reactive Armor.

I am a 33 year old that collects toys and paints them. I am on a website that has ninja key chains on the front page. I am sorry that I have a little humor and like to voice that along with my opinion. Maybe I should go and post on the "Funny" G.I. Joe site? I don't like being called a jerk because I post something about pink ninjas.

Do you ever try to take these kind of threads seriously or just feel the obnoxious need to well, sorry but.. be a jerk?
Seriously, if not going to take the thread seriously and the topic seriously, then just don't post. I'm not a "nay-sayer" but I'll go with this.. I think ARAH as we know it is pretty dated. Resolute was an OK update, but I don't think it would have caught the attention of today's audience to much. I'd make a new cartoon, kid-friendly, but more geared towards the 10-13 range. Action orienated. Trim the Joe team way down and make it more of a rapid response unit. I'd get rid of the more "out-there" weapons and gear, make Cobra a bigger threat. I'd give Cobra the "out-there" stuff. They'd be a huge and competant army. They should win more then they lose or else there's no threat. They have access to technologies that no one else does, yes that includes nano-mites. The Joes need to be underdogs. They're totally secret, no reporters nosing around, etc.. The tone would be serious, but moments of light heartedness, there would be one-liners, but nothing cheesy. Continuing plots that take 2 or more episodes to wrap up. There would be death. Really I'd go with the way I have my Joeverse organized. There would be an Alpha Team (the Joe army, with air support, armor, artillery, etc..) and the Delta Teams (the Joe's sneaky special ops guys). They'd be HQed in a mountain fortress (which I am currently designing one to make it more real, the PITs as shown in the comics were never big enough). Cobra would be dangerous and with their level of tech, they would be a match for any army. So the Joes would be more sneaky, no direct battlefield confrontations, they wouldn't survive those with Cobra. The plot of RoC isn't bad, really what's annoying people is the A-Suits and that Destro is the main baddie and not CC. Replace Destro with CC and get rid of the A-Suits and you'd have a very good Joe movie. |

WHOA!!! I just read your signature regarding your daughter! In spite of the heart-taking reality of your situation involving your young princess, your persona of optimism on the 'CaringBridge' website is encouraging! PRAISE GOD!
You have a free pass to be as lazy as you want. I am very very proud of her and my sense of humor is what keeps me going. |

What are those problems and how would you fix them? Or would you scrap the movie all together?

I think the day I lose my sense of humor is the day I will kill myself, or at least do a cancelled WoW account freakout and stick a remote control in my ass.
Anyway... As things are now, I'd manage the GIJOE property this way. There'd be three distinct lines, like Star Wars has Clone Wars, Legacy and basic action figures. CLASSIC More or less just like the 25th/Modern line, but I would go back to the silver logo and card border and get rid of the cartoon/comic/etc. logo in the corner. I would release characters from the Marvel comics, the ARAH run, the Sunbow and DiC series, and the later comics, though the focus would be mostly on Marvel and ARAH. I would recycle as much classic card art as I could. Vehicles would be in old school-style boxes with old school style art. I would put focus on vehicles that have never been made, like the COBRA transport helicopter from Marvel and the COBRA fighter jets from "The MASS Device." I'd give the go-ahead for a new Sky Striker mold based on the original plane. I would not make comic packs. There would be vehicles and single cards. Cases would be either all army builders or specific characters. Here's a couple of examples: CASE A 1X Snake Eyes V4 style 1X Airtight V1 style 1X Jinx V1 style 1X Kwinn in jungle fatigues 1X COBRA Commander (Battle Corps style, black/silver) 1X Serpentor V1 style 1X Firefly V3 1X Dr. Venom CASE #2 1X Female COBRA Soldier 2X SAW Viper 2X Night Viper 1X Crimson Guard Immortal 1X GIJOE Diver 1X GIJOE Steel Brigade Trooper Army builders would also have many skin and hair color variations, like for example, the female COBRA Soldier would have this many variants: Dark brown skin/Black hair Tan skin/Black hair Light brown skin/Brown hair Caucasian skin/Blonde hair Caucasian skin/Red hair Caucasian skin/Brown hair Caucasian skin/Black hair So I'd drive collectors crazy with that. RESOLUTE Next line: Resolute. I would pursue Resolute as the future of GIJOE to see how it did with more advertisting push. I'd release the DVD and the unreleased action figures. They'd be on classic-style cards with the Resolute logo. I'd re-release Duke, CC and the Trooper. I'd try to get Resolute to be a weekly thirty-minute series, a sequel (not a prequel). MOVIE Depending on how the film does, I'd have a movie line. If the film and its related toys are epic fail, then I'd phase that out. If they are successful, then I'd continue but I'd focus on character/outfits and vehicles that were actually in the movie. TRANSFORMERS CROSSOVER I would also experiment with Joe-scale Transformers. The experiment would involve making a transforming Seeker mold that would be about the size of the Sky Striker. I would release Starscream with COBRA Commander, Skywarp with the Baroness, and Thundercracker with Wild Weasel. If they were successful, the line would continue. |
