6" and 3.75" are not and never have been in any kind of competition with each other. One coming back or going away has no bearing on the demand for the other.
We can all see the Walmart 3.75" super-articulated Star Wars figures are on clearance at Walmart for $5. So if clearance is a sign of demand, there is no demand for any Star Wars figures. The new 6" 40th Anniversary line appears to be very hot though, with R5-D4, Luke X-Wing, R2-D2 and Han selling out nationwide. |

Thing is, and I'm NOT trying to start a fight with anyone who says they would not buy them but im sure ALOT of the Star Wars fans and collectors who had tons of 1 1/18th scale figures said the same thing until they had the first wave of Star Wars 6" black series in hand and said holy shit these are awesome, I will only get my favorites, then boom you have them all as they are really good looking figures with awesome articulation, I know for a fact I'm one of them. I also have a small countries population in 1 1/18th scale GIJoe figures but I would still collect 6" versions as well if done like the SW black.

If they match the new cartoon or movie and are the only way to get those characters I might pick and choose.
Might.

I've been against this idea from the very start but mostly because I just don't have the room and can't afford it. It's easy to say I would only buy a few but I know I'd struggle turning any down. I just don't want this. I want Joes to remain 3 3/4" only.

1) Few people want to buy toys that don't fit with their existing scale, especially when it comes to vehicles.
2) The Caps Lock button is the one on the left. |

Because it's not 1986 and G.I. Joe isn't what it used to be. There's no cartoon. No huge comic. If we were to get any 6" figures, they'd be based on the movies and then there would be a ginormous bitch fest about it. And you'd be fracturing an already fractured collecting base.
Even the 4" figures now are too big. Go back and pick up an ARAH figure and move it all around. Every joint swivels easily, it's got a chunky, tough feel to it. And if you were nine years old, it would fit in your hand perfectly. Contrast that with the figures now. They feel flimsy and delicate, they're tough to move. They're just not playable. I really wish somebody would make a ARAH style kickstarter. I'd buy every figure they make if the parts were compatible with the Joes. |

If a 4" figure made sense when you were 4 feet tall, doesn't a 6" figure make more sense when you're 6 feet tall? One reason 6" figures are hotter now with lots of collectors is because this is a more natural, playable scale for an adult collector. Smaller figures are better for smaller people.
No, because like the other guy said, once they see the first wave, some of the "I fear change" people change their mind. I recently looked at 2 Rebelscum polls about the 6" line, before and after it came out. People saying they would/are buying the line went way up in the second poll. |

You mean like the very first GI Joe figures :p

If they did, I need a source with properly attributed information (i.e., WHO actually said that). All indications I see are that the next iteration of TVC will effectively follow 3.75 TBS's footsteps, or those of the 3.75 Marvel Legends line. And those did not, or are not, seeing that sort of volume released. Quote:
I think they would probably go over better than a LOT of longtime collectors would care to admit. To me, it seems the general collector market is far more multi-branded, and a line in the favored collector range would have a good bit of crossover appeal. Quote:
Thats the extent right there. As much as collectors like to puff their chests at how "important" they are to a given mass retail franchise...they aren't as much as they'd like to think. A LOT of collector items and sub lines are heavily subsidized by high margin/high volume kid-centric product lines. Those "shampoo" figures and lightsabers make it possible for Hasbro to take chances on things like the Landspeeder or similar collector centric items. And right now, GI Joe doesn't have a mass retail presence to "subsidize" a line like a 6" collector range.
