I also think that most of the characters that kids are gonna want are a lot of the characters that collectors are going to pass on. I know I'm only buying the figures/vehicles I want. This won't include multiple Dukes, Ripcords, or any of those guys.
This will leave plenty of those characters on the shelves for kids. Plus, like lots of people said, this isn't the 25th/Modern line. These figures will be EVERYWHERE. And lots of them.
I don't forsee a problem. Good question, though...

Honestly, I don't see why anyone would think that this movie is going to sell any more action figures to kids than any other movie. Why would any kid who sees it want the figures anymore than say X-men or Narnia or Star Trek? I realy don't see how one movie is going to result in anything more than the usual few months of movie toy interest, followed by the next big thing. It happens time after time, why would this be any different. To kids this will only be ANOTHER movie toy line. Personally, I think collectors are the ONLY chance for the line. If left to the kids, their short attention spans will only provide for a few months of sales. One movie will not make them into life long collectors. If they don't buy, and we don't buy, that will leave A LOT of stuff sitting on the pegs.

I only plan on buying what I need and it isn't much. That means no army building with the new stuff. I'm sure like the majority of collectors here, we just what was offered in the 80's and maybe some of the new modern era figures.

I can't say that there's been a shortage of any movie toy line figures this year as a result of Collectors. I don't think this will be any different. The initial impulse buying might leave the shelves barren for a week or so, but if Hasbro supports RoC like the first TF movie, there'll be plenty of toys going on clearance in the end.

i think that hasbro is going to release these toys in mass quanity to begin with because they want to draw the buyer in. hopefully hasbro has learned which figures are a sure win and will send more troop builders and the more popular hard to find figures in a case then they previously have.
this is a hard question to answer though, im thinking by the time kids ketch on to these toys the collectors will have pretty much already picked threw everything. times are alot different now and kids know how to work the internet, so i would think they would be able to discover online retailers but i could be wrong, when i first started collecting it took me monthes before i discovered the tank but i did find ebay quite quickly. but again im not sure if kids are going to want these toys bad enough to pay inflation, only time will tell. really this is all up to how hasbro distributes these toys.

a poster above said how is it this movie is even gonna raise enough interest that kids will even want to buy the figures?
this seems right on.
i'm gonna throw this out as an example. i went on the big toy run today, that i rarely get to do anymore.anyway its 3 walmarts 2 kmarts a tru,2 targets, scattered drug stores that carry toys. a few super markets. and of all those places all that new transformerd stuff was out. none of it looked like its been touched. thats stuffs been out a couple weeks now.
now is a crap time for toys. parents might take their kids to the movie. but i think the figure sales might be alittle slacker then how much they push out. if its even as much as we think.
i'd guess its gonna be primarily like 25th is now. and be collector driven. for those that are going into the movie line.

I had four COBRA soldiers, 2 officers (and would have had six if BroJob hadn't cancelled my order for mail-away Officers and Major Bludd), 4 Crimson Guards, 5 Vipers and 2 BATs.
Though I will say this, collectors do keep children from getting action figures. I remember a few years ago during the great Power of the Force 2 sale at TRU, there was a kid there who was mesmerized because he'd never seen a single carded Boba Fett before. This was after they'd been out for four years or so.

Great discussion. I would say that I assume Hasbro will try to go big with this launch. The Case packs are going to be bad for Army building the NEO and Elite vipers though. But there is going to be so many waves of Neo-Vipers we should all get one. They need to keep the main characters on the shelves, SNAKE-EYES and Storm Shadow, so the case packs need to be anti-Troop builders.
Still If they sell out. MAKE MORE HASBRO! It 's hard to predict what people will buy, but I think Hasbro need to be ready to do another run, because these will sell out. But What we need to do, if like myself you live in an area where your Toys'r'Us doesn't stock shit, Complain. And complain alot. Make your local lazyass Toys'r'Us manager order more. because distribution is not even. But if your shelves are empty and Topeka is putting it on Clearance, make those people order more. Even if you don't buy any, you owe it to the kids.

its sad, but true.
Look at Transformers: Massive kid interest that summer and that christmas. The months after? pegs FILLED with every one made that took over a year to sell in some cases.
Look at Star Wars: Massive sales when TCW came out. Now? Can't get rid of them on clearance.
Look and Indiana Jones: Pegwarming
Look at Star Trek: Pegwarming
Kids these days DON'T CARE! They don't become attached to things the way we all did when we were young.
I wish they did, but they don't.
